Hi guys, I'm trying to decide on which to get: a refurbished or new laptop. Whenever I think of refurbished, for some reason it just sounds like the machine had some sort of defect and that companies just fixed it up so it would be suitable to resell. The laptop is a Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro. I am really serious about investing alot into this and I don't want a piece of shit that will breakdown after the warranty is over. What should I do?

Refurbished C2D Macbook Pro: 17in.
$1350

New C2D Macbook Pro: 17in.
$2500 (With my discount)

I originally wanted a 15 in. because 17 in. seems to be huge. But if I can get a GOOD refurbished and in kick-ass condition 17. in. for 1300 dollars, then I might go for that.

New C2D MBP: 15in.
$2200

Also, I've asked if Macs or PCs were better. Alot of biased answers from users of one or the other. I am trying to use them for graphic design with programs such as Adobe Programs (Photoshop, Indesign), Corel Draw, Paint Shop Pro, etc. The majority of the people I have asked said that Macs were generally better for this field. I don't know if this is true but from the colleges I have looked at, this seems to be true because its available for students. I found that the built in webcam, the side panel with usb and firewire ports useful.

Eh.. anyway my budget for a laptop is $2200 max. Anyone with recommendations of any laptops?

You buy a Mac and you will be sick as a dog...There's nothing a Mac can do that much faster or better than a PC that will make up for the simple functionality that you will loose by using a Mac...

In comparison, my PC cost me $2100 plus tax brand new and would probably wipe the floor with that Mac...

I might buy a refurbished part (motherboard) at the most but not an entire system.

Well, here's my two cents on the subject... my brother took Graphic Design in college, and they used Macs in class. So, if you are looking to do a lot of that work, Macs might be the way to go.

As for refurbished or new, I was always told that it depends. A refurbished computer is questionable, but a refurbished monitor is fine.

Kramer, he's talking laptops..
You don't get refurbished monitors only with a laptop..

Well Macs still have to use Rosetta to run Adobe CS2, so until CS3 it's a no-go.
An old G4 eats the Macintels for breakfast when it comes to Photoshop.
On the other Adobe is working rapidly on CS3.

I've been running Macs, PCs, and whatnot, on various operating systems and to tell you the truth I don't have a favorite one. They all do their job.
The best answer is to get what suits yourself. If you owned a Mac -- buy a Mac.
If you always worked on a PC, why switch to Mac?

And my recommendation is never get a refurbished system from Apple. Never!

Just my 2 cents.
