On my way to get coffee creamer this morning, there was a topic on the radio that I thought was kinda interesting...A local man established a 50,000 scholarship for students in the community...Well, that's great and all, but the guy is a reputed drug dealer...A mother whose son won the scholarship refused the money...

I personally think that's dumb as fuck, on many, many levels, but there were people calling in trying to rationalize it, but most were not...

If it were you, or your child, would you accept the money..?

Is it still a drug dealer or is he a former drug dealer that is trying to get out? I see a big difference there

Yea, I think there is a big difference. If this was a former drug dealer who now believes that dealing drugs is wrong and is trying to benefit society to make up for what he did, then I would have no problem with the scholarship.

If it was a current drug dealer then I don't think it would be good to take the money because of what he was doing.

I think i agree with trash on this one. Heres a question my sister likes to throw around. If the devel gave you 1000 dollors and you took it with the intent on giving it to an orphanage would that be OK. This is some thing her boy friend at the time asked of two people that were preaching door to door. They were speachless.

So again...This guy who is a drug dealer sets up a scholarship to help a kid from his neighborhood go to college...And this is a bad thing..?

I think I see a difference between your 2 examples. The guy is inheriting the money from some one and from a situation long scence gone. You would hope that he would reflect on it a little and if hes now rich you would hope he would give to charity. The fact is hes not giving legitimacy to an on going corrupting force. The drug dealer is helping to destroy many lives every day as we speak. Accepting his money would be saying its OK to destroy countless lives and families as long as you help a couple kids go to school. How many people have to do drugs and get screwed up to pay for you to go to school? I wouldnt want my kid thinking about that. Like trashtalker said if hes out of the business and now actively helping the community than maybe thats OK. If hes still causing huge amounts of pain than dont let him try to feel a little better by helping a couple people .

Solomon writes repeatedly in Proverbs that ill-gotten gain is worthless and will only lead to trouble. I do not know the entire situation, and Nick made some points, but just thought I would throw this into the e-kwayshun
