As I was watching Heroes the other day, I started thinking...
Assuming that time travel is possible, do you think that it is possible to change outcomes..? Sometimes, when I look at the world I see chaos, and the other times, I see a system of things that shouldn't be disturbed...As in, if you spill something, you were meant to spill it, and nothing you could do would prevent that...
What I'm saying, is that say for instance you spill something on your new shirt...Using your power, you travel back 2 seconds into time, and prevent the spill...What I am thinking, is that for whatever reason you spilled that beverage, the universe will bend to its will, and exert that outcome in another way...
You have a loved one die in an accident, so you go back in time and convince them not to leave the house...They live, someone else of equal importance to you suffers a similar fate...Kinda like the Butterfly Effect I guess, how no matter what he did, things always changed, and despite the simple nature of the change, things became drastically different...

I've been in so many close calls where a second or two one way or the other and I would've died. It's strange to think what might've been different if one of those occasions I HAD died. Whose life have I impacted since that moment who may in the future do something monumental.
Exactly like the Butterfly Effect. Good ole Chaos Theory.

Time travel won't ever be possible man. I am going skeptic on ya here. But you raise a good point. It would be kind of funny if we figured out how to travel through time but couldn't change anything lol.
I think teleporting is possible though!

Kris, we all know that it isn't possible. Ty said "What if it was possible". Now you just let your mind go!
It would be possible to change outcomes because every decision we make fits into the grand scheme of the universe somehow. It wouldn't be wise at all to go back in time to change the past for that very reason. You could end up really messing up the world

Yeah, but I'm thinking you could definitely change things, but would you really..? I wonder how fragile the continuum is...Maybe if you change something small, like the color of your shit you wear...Would it matter..?

It's an interesting question that I don't think we'll have the answer to. I don't know how much our little choices and decisions affect the grand scheme of things. I dont' think that changing a shirt color would do that much, but you never know

If you change one thing, no matter it's importance, the same rule has to apply to important things - so, in fact, I guess the answer is yes; changing your shirt color could possibly be as important as life or death..

QUOTE(WAI @ Jan 28 2007, 04:45 PM) If you change one thing, no matter it's importance, the same rule has to apply to important things - so, in fact, I guess the answer is yes; changing your shirt color could possibly be as important as life or death..
I personally know what shirt I will wear three wednesdays from now. I plan everything out.
As far as time travel, the closest I know of is projecting one's consciousness into another time. The trick is to maintain focus in this other time. The Shao Lin Classic of Time Travel and Longevity is a book that outlines a pretty concise way to do this.
If you can project your consciousness back in time, and project a suggestion for someone to do something, or conquer their ego (and take possession of their body) through life transferrence yoga, you could make something happen in the past, but I honestly think the buffers would just adjust everything in between to make both your present time, and that past time happen if yu were to return, unless you had acheived the Shieh Tai state, and then you aready know Reality is an Illusion, and you hold no expectations for it.
I would think if you took possession of their body, though, you might be stuck in this "past" time, and live it out. In yur present time, your death would just be considered "natural causes"
If the changes were severe enough and you were still planning on going back, you would most likely destroy some of the events in between the two, and thus some of your memories in between would become "false" for they do no longer fit between the two events of making someone do something, and the point where you projected your consciousness back in time. Thus, the real price for making this change would be to be left with more falsity in your head than when you began.
Reality manipulation is possible and you must exercise caution when attempting it, but often it not as unstable as portrayals of it in movies or fictional adventure books.

Time travel is indeed possible, we are in this moment on a trip to the future disguised as what can be called lifetime.
Now A for an elegant answer to go back in time to save a loved one who died read The Time Machine from HG Wells or watch the movie (there are two versions both of them worth).
