Alec Baldwin doing what he does best

LOS ANGELES - The festering bad blood between movie-star exes
Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger erupted Thursday when an angry phone message from Baldwin to his daughter was made public. On the recording, Baldwin can be heard berating his 11-year-old, Ireland, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig."

"You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being," he says, apparently upset that she did not answer her phone for a planned call.

"I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."

He goes on to say that he plans to fly from New York to Los Angeles "for the day just to straighten you out on this issue."

The recording was published by celebrity news site TMZ.com, which said that the call was placed on April 11.

Baldwin's spokesman said in a statement Thursday that, "in the best interest of the child," the 49-year-old actor "will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing ... keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order.

"The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order," the statement continued. "Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years."

"The voice mail speaks for itself," Basinger's spokeswoman said.

Calls to Basinger's and Baldwin's attorneys were not returned.

Baldwin and Basinger, 53, were married in 1993. They have been involved in prolonged legal disputes over custody and other issues since she filed for divorce in 2001, which was granted in 2002. The couple's differences have been aired several times in public.

Basinger was charged with contempt of court in October for violating terms of a 2004 custody agreement. A motion by her lawyers to dismiss the charges was denied Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The next hearing on visitation issues is scheduled for May 4.

I heard the call, and while I'm not nobody to be talking shit about how someone should be raising their kids, this seemed a bit over the top...Maybe I'd say this to a teenager, or be along these lines, but to a 11 year old, and a girl at that...Hmm...One must wonder what he might say to wifey if she fucked up his eggs over easy...

Ok that's pretty brutal. I don't really think that's anyway to speak to your child, regardless of their age. I'm sure dude coulda found a far more effective way to get the point across to his daughter.

Agreed- at the same time BOTH Bassinger and Baldwin are mentally impaired- psycho (whatever the term is??)

His tone, message are way to over the top, direspectful and rude ('specially to a girl)

I can relate to how custody -visitation and one parent (Baasinger and my Ex) go mental and dont follow the law, then try to turn your kids against you. BAd situation- hopefully he'll take a smart pill with that next shot of whiskey and the CA court here sets Bassinger straight

Basinger hires security for daughter

Apr 24, 2007

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Kim Basinger has hired a bodyguard for her 11-year-old daughter after a voice-mail tirade by her father, actor Alec Baldwin, was made public last week, Basinger's spokeswoman said on Monday.

The divorced couple's bitter six-year custody battle over their only daughter, Ireland, burst into the open last Thursday when the celebrity Web site TMZ.com posted a recording of a blistering phone message Baldwin had left the child, calling her a "rude, thoughtless little pig."

The 49-year-old actor, who co-stars as a venal, egocentric TV executive on the NBC sitcom "30 Rock," said on the tape that he was furious at not being able to reach his daughter for a prearranged telephone conversation, and threatened to fly out from New York City "to straighten your ass out."

Baldwin later apologized for his temper with a statement on his own Web site, and accused his ex-wife of leaking the voice mail tape to the media in defiance of a court order sealing material related to their custody proceedings.

But Basinger's spokeswoman, Annett Wolf, issued a statement on Monday denying the actress released the voice mail and said the recording was "not sealed under a court order."

"Kim did hire security in response to the media attention on her daughter in order to allow Ireland to maintain her regular routine and activities uninterrupted," Wolf said.

Her statement added that Basinger hoped Baldwin would "finally address his unstable and irrational behavior so he, at some point, can potentially create a relationship with his daughter."

TMZ reported that a Los Angeles County Superior Court commissioner temporarily suspended Baldwin's visitation rights last week after hearing the tape.

Representatives for Basinger, 53, who won the Oscar for her supporting role in the 1997 film "L.A. Confidential," declined to comment on that report, and Baldwin's lawyer was not immediately available for comment.

The couple married in 1993, and she filed for divorce in 2001. The divorce was granted the following year, but they have continued to fight in court over custody and other issues.
