Here lately, I've been really adamant on supporting local businesses...Whenever I can, I avoid places like Wal-Mart and Lowe's like the plague, and try to shop smaller grocery stores or county co-ops...I don't know how it is where you guys go, but Wal-Mart has shitty customer service almost everwhere...There are never enough registers open...Lines can be through the fucking electronics department from the CS desk, and they will still let the same person work the line down...

To me, its not worth the time I spend to save a few bucks...Smaller stores seem to have great deals, and I've noticed they work a little harder for business...We have a grocery store here called Kroger, and sometimes just to test, I walk around looking lost, and each time, someone asks me if I need help...I hardly ever wait in line, and find awesome deals like 10 for 10 sales on everything from shampoo to chuck steaks...

What's it like where you guys are..?

I always try to shop at the local stores and the mom & pop shops. I come from a small town so I want to support the community and those who work hard to provide for the families. I hate the big businesses

Well here Wal Mart is the Mom and Pop kind of store. It's owned and run by people in this town. Yes it's a part of a bigger picture, but it's still feeding and supporting all the families here. If you don't shop there, then they start letting cashiers, stockers, cart pushers, etc off that need to feed their family that night. People are typically nice if it's not stock day and they will stand and chat it up with you for a little while.

If there is a line longer than 4 customers long they will open up a new register and I have never had to stand in line extremely long, except for that day after Thanksgiving time I needed tampons and the time I forgot a last minute gift the day before Christmas Eve.

At the local grocery stores are kids that haven't reached the age to make a good enough pimple yet that are snotty.

TWELVE pack of Diet Dr. Pepper at the grocery store - $4.32

Now the Wal Mart here isn't a super center so there isn't as much groceries, but you can save $40-$50 a week if you go there for the majority of your stuff.

We have Kroger here and my dad buys from there before he'll go to Walmart.

Local mom and pop for me if you can find 'em here in SoCal - or if a business has a habit of donating to our Edible Garden programs, Game Fundraisers, or school fundraisers - then I'm using buying from them.

If a business wont support its children and community then they arent supported.

Over here in the UK the Walmart comparison must be Tesco's (1 in every 8 pounds spent in the UK is through Tesco's)

We use the local butchers and bakers, quality is better.
So many people like to get everything in one shop, it's scary the power Tesco's are getting.

Over here Walmart own Asda, one of Tesco's major competitors.

The Wal-Marts we have here aren't too bad. There are definitely line-ups like crazy on the weekends but it's all good.

I just like the fact that they have almost anything you need. To me that's of utmost importance as I hate going from shop to shop looking for retarded things like electric lint shavers. LOL!

I'm in Carlsbad here. I love the local farmers markets that are twice a week and everything is fresh around here. I love it!
