Adapted from the short story by Stephen King, a renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (John Cusack) believes only in what he can see with his own two eyes. But after a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he has no real proof of life - or afterlife. Enslin's phantom-free run of long and lonely nights, however, is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, "Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms." Defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson), the author is the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room. Another bestseller may be imminent, but first he must go from skeptic to true believer - and ultimately survive the night.

I hate horror flicks that just play soft music and then deafen you when the screen changes just to get you to jump. I do like suspenseful thrillers with a complex plot and more thought mixed in than 'how many people should we kill in this one and how much fake blood can we get?"

THIS MOVIE WAS THE BOMBDIGGEDY! Cusack tore the often lackluster Stephen King adaptations a new asshole. don't be fooled by Sam Jackson headlining on the poster. he's in it for 10 min at best. this is a one-man show.

Short review:

I went and saw this not knowing it was Stephen King, and the leadup about the whole room caused my to psyche myself out. The movie was great, but thankfully not near as bad as I would have made it based on my imagination.

I expected far more, and was afraid I would get it. Thankfully, I got jst enough to make it an enjoyable ghost story with some very surreal scenes and terrible cleverness.

The Cusak Kids stay strong through John alone.

I agree totally. His sister (Joan) really annoys me as an actor.
