I want to design and get me some card printed up Friday...
I kinda know what I want on the card, something with my name, and contact information on it...I don't want a 'Business' card persay, this is more something I want to be able to give out to poeple I meet, and tell them what I do...Like hey, 'I do hosting, give me a call...' Or 'Hey, I do loans, shoot me an email'...I'll come up w/standard cards for specialization, but for this, I want something that's visually stunning, slightly esoteric of course...
Any ideas..? Horizontal, vertical, etc..?

Oversized! Not by a lot. I collect a lot of cards in dealing with vendors and customers. Their doesn't seem to be any real "standard" size because all my cards are a little different. The ones that are a little bigger are easier to find in a stack. I don't know what you are advertising, but do you have enough information that you could get a business DVD card and put a flash video on it? Those are very cool, but a lot more money. You could make your own by burning mini CD-Rs and making your own labels.
Of all the things you could do, there are a few things to keep in mind:
1. A business card is a mini advertisement.
2. Your logo should be visible on the card from about 10ft away.
3. Lettering should be clear and a readable font.
4. The reader should understand what you do or why they want your card by reading the card. (a lot of cards just have a name and numbers and you have no idea what they do)
I hope that helps.

My recommendation would be to keep the design simple but unique so that it could be useful for both personal and business related items. The paper they get printed on is crucial...something a little heavier weight with maybe a slight texture to it is perfect.

I can design you something, in exchange for a service you provide me as a friend. I will keep איהיא as a basic motif, and do you proud and still make it intelligible. I can get it to you this week, if you let me know.

I disagree with HL about the Business card DVD. Bad idea. People want something small and able to fit easily into their pocket or wallet. They don't want to have a computer or TV around to see what you're all about.
Like E said, keep it simple but unique. Have a sweet logo and slogan that will be prominent so that they will recognize you by.
That's what I have to say about it...

Heh.....remind me to not take marketing stratagies from you TT.......I just happened to land a $125,000.00 contract for our company based on what was contained on one of those "bad ideas". :|
Techy people are inclined to investigate what is on a DVD business card.....maybe home loans isn't the best market for that type of media, but it is a very effective way to shop your capabilities.

Way to go RIM! The DVD should look like a business card on the outside, name and phone numbers printed. The content takes you further into what can be provided and why to choose this company over all the others.

There are some really good ideas about DVD's and technology and stuff like that, but not for a business card. That's what I'm talking about.

OK, I have in my mind what I want, a message within a message...But I lack the graphical savvy to even TOUCH the idea...I just hope its well crafted enough to be explained to someone who can...
A DVD would be sweet, and definitely when I can secure some 125K contracts, but for right now, I'm just a squirrel trying to get a nut...
I like the idea of being oversized, but I'm thinking slightly thicker, like one of those high end sports trading cards...Jet black and glossy first of all, and I want my #CC5500 to highlight the Kanji symbol I have chosen... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Vista inspired, but not vista like if that makes sense...I want the background to resemble a sort of scroll, and be barely visible unless the card is placed at a certain light or angle...In it, will be of course, the message within the message...
I have cards that I want to leave in places like restaurants, I want this to be something completely different than that...I won't be leaving these wrapped up in the tip at Applebee's...These are me selling myself and handing someone a piece of paper so sexy, they go, 'Damn!'...I want that whatever I tell them I do to be charred into their brains the minute I hand it to them...If they can't remember and connect me to that card, then I didn't do something right...
And like I said, I want to provide an array of services, so I will need a comprehensive title like 'Information Specialist' or 'Solution Specialist'...
