first let me apologize for making my first topic a request and alson im sorry if theres already a thread about this but i just couldnt find it....
but lately ive been having problems with my coputer and no matter what i try i cant seem to fix it...
my biggest problem is that lately different files and programs become corrupted constantly
and applications and programs seem to stop working all of a sudden and give me an error repor (hell even the error reports at times become corrupted) i try giving a chkdsk and while ioit works in the short term and seems to fix them, in a couple of hours other files orb those same files become corrupted again
so my question is does anyone have any idea what might be happening? is it my Operating system or hard disk thats all messed up? or can it be a virus?
does anyone have suggestion on how to fix it?
anyway for your time and sorry for bothering you...

It could be any one of those actually.
process of elimination is needed.
are you running anti-viral software - if so what kind, is it up to date .. if not grab avg free .. update it and scan
if that don't work .. grab a spare usb key and put the xp usb edition on it and run some diagnostics or grab your xp cd and run the diagnostics off it (if your running xp that is)
in the event even that fails .. back up your files .. format the drive and load the os back onto it.
in the slim, slim chance that fails .. I'd say your drive is bad .. newegg has em cheap .. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Bro, these are the kinds of requests I love to see...Our geek squadron is off the chain..!
Kurgan has already laid the ground work...Corrupted files could be bad HDD sectors...A virus...All that good stuff...But if there are no noises, and blatant errors, especially when you're booting the computer...I'm going to side on the software issue being problematic...
I'll give you a download to some software you can run if you can post the results for us, and we'll have a look at your system and be better to help you w/o asking 2 million questions...

wow... thanks for your help... right now im using panda and i just updated my services so might not be it... how ever somer spywares have managed to slip in through its firewall so maybe some unknown virus might have slipped through plus a web site that i visit warneed that there was an unknown virus
so it might be that... does anyone know of a better virus scanner than panda?
ill try to update you as i get some reports of the problenms im having as i dont remember all of them... right now pandas firewall has suddenly got an error so it might have become corrupted also firefox didnt seem to work for a while but now it finnaly beginning to work
i also know that one of my drivers are messed up since my computer will restart all of a sudden and give me an error report that said that my computer had to restart becouse one of my drivers stopped working
i also think that it might be hdd sectors on my hard disk becouse when i give it a chkdsk it will informs me something about corrupt sectors...however it seems to fix them (but then other files become curropted)
anyway ill try to inform when i get more repots or problems...

another thing to try is disabling any and all "real time" virus/spyware/maelware scanners. Sometimes these programs get aggressive and try to scan/fix all files each and every time they are accessed. I have seen this process cause enough of a delay that the OS will crash when it can not have access to the file fast enough. This situation could also partially explain the corruption happening during the write process. If I had to speculate, I would guess you are running with 512MB or less RAM and an older HD which could compound this problem if it were to happen during a paging operation (when the OS writes the contents of the RAM to a temporary place on the HD).
Recommended steps, if first does not fix problem, try next and see if problem re-occurs:
1. Disable real time file scanning in virus/spyware software
2. Update all device drivers
3. Run virus scans in safe mode.
4. In device manager, disable any unused devices.
5. Report back with results of above steps and description of your hardware and what you were doing when problems occur.

so it can actually be panda antivirus thats causing all this?
well my ram is pretty low just 256 so can that be causing my problems...
is strange becouse ive had panda for while now and it didnt cause so much trouble
does anyone know of a good anti virus/spyware/firewall/etc thats free and that i can use within my limitations?
maybe is becouse while i scan with panda things like emule, bitcomet and limewire are running... can that be it?
also if my device drivers are not to date where can i update them? i tried to update my hard disk on device manager but it seemed like they were up to date is that the driver you mean or is there another on im not aware of? (im not being sarcastic im rather insecure about my tech knowledge so im just asking you)
also im a bit of a pirate there a couple of games that downloaded them and im using cd cracks to play them...
can that be the cause?
"which could compound this problem if it were to happen during a paging operation (when the OS writes the contents of the RAM to a temporary place on the HD"
-sorry for asking so much but can you explain that in more detail, please

Wow man. Sounds like you're system is a bit screwed. Most likely from a virus and or spyware.
I don't know what OS you are running but I'm gonna presume it is XP.
My advice:
1) Right click on C: in My Computer. Goto Tools, Error checking. Click check now. It will tell you if you have bad sectors.
If your hard disk is OK then:
2) Get your XP disk
3) Wipe hard disk
4) Reinstall XP
5) Download AVG free antivirus and get an easy to use REAL firewall like Zonealarm
Sounds like you are gonna have one hell of a time getting the malware off your computer otherwise...

Great work emanon, zap, and kurgan...
