Exciting news!

Well, not that anybody would notice but I haven't been around a lot lately, as my work has really been in overdrive for the last 6 months.
In case none of you know, I am the HDS Project Manager for a Civil/Survey firm in the Detroit area. (http://www.metcohds.com) The "HDS" stands for High Definition Surveying, which is data collection with extremely high speed lasers......by high speed, I mean 500,000 data points (x,y,z) per second. We use this technology to create As-Builts of entire facilities. I've done projects at some of the largest Nuclear facilites in the Country and have mapped "millions" of square feet of Automotive plants (the meat of our work at this point).
The reason I bring all of this up, is that I was asked to perform the High Definition Surveying services for two extremely kick ass projects coming up in the next three months.
The first one is for an organization called CYARK (http://www.cyark.org) and will be the collection of all the data on the Myan Pyramids of Chitzen Itza in Mexico. Cyark is a historical preservation society (non profit) that does this work all over the world. This past winter, we collected data on the Historic Tudor Place in Washington D.C. Cyark liked the work so much, they gave us the project in Mexico!
The next project will be happening at the end of September and into October and is being put together as a joint effort through the Autodesk, LEICA and Trimble and will include mapping "many" of the areas on Easter Island!! I will be taking an absolute shitload of pictures, videos etc., etc. etc. and am more excited than you can imagine!
Easter Island is the most remote inhabited island in the world. I've been given a list of things to bring.....including a Satelite Phone, mosquito nets and lots and lots of DEET!
Double D.....you can be damn sure I'm diving!
I'll keep you all posted!!
Later!
Rim.
