My Life on a Mac

I am going to be transitioning on over to a Mac in a couple days and I'm pretty excited. I'm going to be running parallels in order to keep some programs up and "sharing" but other than that, I think I'm going to be way up into the OSX environment. I'll keep this post update after I receive it and I'll post reviews. Not trying to sell anything but it seems that most users on the forum are on a PC and for those that are curious about Macs, I'll help you out! ;)
One thing I fucked up on was getting a mouse that wasn't bluetooth. Way to go me.

That's great. What mac did you buy?
I had a bit of a go on one lately and liked it. I'll probably go a Macbook Pro for my next laptop.

I am trying to go into Graphic Design. After visiting two art schools, they both sucked hard. I saw Parsons in NYC and I loved it. So after a hard thought, I'm gonna take a year off and sharpen up on my computer skills, mainly in Adobe programs and possibly Aperture. I'm quite nervous but I heard the transition isn't that big of a deal.
I went ahead and got a Macbook Pro off the site and had the hard drive upgraded. I got the 2.2 because I didn't want to pay 500 more for basically a faster graphics card and a larger hard drive.
If all goes well, then maybe I'll move out of Starbucks and hopefully to an Apple store by the middle of Fall.

My 15 Inch Macbook Pro Specs:
- 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (4MB shared L2 cache)
- 15.4-inch (viewable) widescreen - 1440 x 900 pixels - Antiglare/Matte Version
- 2GB (two SO-DIMMs) - Planning on upgrading when I'm not broke.
- 160GB Serial ATA, 5400 rpm - Originally comes with 120GB on stock model
- 8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 128MB of GDDR3 SDRAM
- Built-in iSight camera, DVI video out with support for DVI video (up to 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display) plus VGA, S-video, and composite video output with adapters5
- Apple Remote; full-size, illuminated keyboard with ambient light sensor; scrolling trackpad
- Two USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 400 port, one FireWire 800 port, one ExpressCard/34 slot
- Combined optical digital/headphone out, combined optical digital/audio line in, microphone, speakers
- Battery Life: Up to 5.5 hours
Retails at $1999 and +49 for the hard drive upgrade. With a student discount though, they knock off a few hundred AND i purchased it on my states' tax free weekend, so I got off saving alot of money.
This is going to be an investment so I went ahead and got shit to cover the entire thing from dust and scratches. I'm the type of dipshit that fucks everything up every once in a while so I'm gonna fool-proof my laptop so I can sell it one day. It was a debate over the new iMac though because those are pretty nice as well but I wanted something that I could carry around so I just went ahead and go a laptop.
Edit: I also "got" some programs for image editing so if you guys want a review on a product, just ask and I'll be the guinea pig. Friday is when it comes so I'm pretty excited.
The programs I have so far:
- Aperture
- Adobe Lightroom
- Whatever's on Adobe's Premium Creative Suite

Great system. You gonna use bootcamp and install some version of windows on it or are you gonna go solely mac programs?

i'm going to use vmware's fusion software so i can use both operating systems at the same time. some of the programs i need for windows aren't going to work on my mac so it's just a backup. other than that i'm going to try and do everything on osx.
