So word has come out that the film version of Marvel's mighty Asgardian has started to get the ball rolling.
First a director in Matthew Vaughan, known for producing British gangster films Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels,Snatch & directing Daniel Craig in L4yer Cake & the instant classic that is Stardust. Now it seems Rome cast member Kevin McKidd has been cast to play The God Of Thunder. haven't seen Rome but it seems to be a casting cow of sorts for Marvel. just a few weeks back it was announced that another cast member Ray Stevenson will be taking over from Thomas Jane in The Punisher sequel. What do you peeps think!? McKidd certainly looks the part & it's better than the fanboys clamoring for hokey wrestler Triple Homo.

I've never seen Rome either, but I'm wondering what kind of storyline they'll follow...I don't think I've really read the Thor comic outside of the Avengers stuff I've seen..

I'm hoping they'll keep it all mythic & Asgardian instead of placing him in an urbanscape like NYC. it's been done to death. & after seeing what Vaughan did with Stardust,he'd be the man to pull it off.

Rome was awesome! I think there is a lot of potential in casting McKidd. And here's another movie I have to look forward to.

Considering how they have screwed up other Marvel characters in the movies I'm sure they'd screw this one up too...

Ghostrider was robbed badly. They could have done so well with that.

I agree about GR being robbed of prper cinematic representation. Daredevil,The Punisher & Elektra too. the directors who seem to pull off the Marvel characters are the ones who have a genuine passion & interest for the material. guys like Bryan Singer (X-Men 1+2,Superman Returns),Sam Raimi (Spider-Man 1+2. 3 was botched as the studio interfered after filming was already under way). i'm gonna give Matthew Vaughan the benefit of the doubt with Thor after seeing Stardust. if anyone can pull off that magical Asgardian shit,it'll be him.

Vaughn Wants to Shoot Thor in the UK
Source: He-Man
November 19, 2007

Stardust director Matthew Vaughn told the Daily Mail that he wants to shoot comic book adaptation Thor at home in the UK.

"We have the A-list actors, designers, cinematographers and crew in Britain, so there's no need to make 'Thor' among all that madness in Los Angeles," he said.

The newspaper added that, because of the current writers strike in the US, Thor would not start filming until the end of next year.

Hmmph more delay...

Matthew Vaughn Gives Thor Update
Source: Empire Online
March 9, 2008

Judging by his win at the Sony Ericsson Empire Awards, Stardust director Matthew Vaughn is pretty adept at the whole fantasy thing, so why the hell isn’t he hard at work at his long-mooted adaptation of Marvel’s none-more-Norse superhero, Thor? The answer, it seems, lays in the laps of the comic book gods.

“We’re in a holding pattern at the moment,” he said. “It’s up to Marvel, they have to decide if they want to make the movie and then we take it from there.”

“Holding pattern” may well be a cleverly masked way of describing “development hell” but Vaughn, it seems, still has big ideas for Odin’s hammer-wielding son.
“Well, the main role is going to be played by someone totally unknown,” he said. “It can’t be a star, it’s got to be someone totally unknown.”

Thor the comic book is well known for his overly lyrical dialogue and slightly ridiculous garb, which works well on the page but how will it translate to the big screen?

“I think you have to respect that it is comic book and silly to be frank, so you have to combine that with a modern style and hopefully come up with something fresh. I think we can come up with something special.”

i still wanna see Vaughn bring it cos he's the man for the job, but WTF happened to McKidd?!?

Thor the movie.

Gawdz no!

Some comics just can't be made movies! I likes StarDust, but why anyone thinks Thor can be made into a comic is rediculous. Thor was a character who was barely able to hold a comic down. He was far better in cameo or Avengers than his own Title.

Methinks Thor will be as wrecked as any train could be.
