Does anybody here own one, or know one intimately enough to vouch for one..? I have a Canon Rebel SLR now, but its film...It's awesome, but I think that I want to go digital for a little while...I realize that some of these cameras can cost a pretty penny, shit I think my Rebel was about $200 8 years ago...

I have a Olympus E-330 DSLR. A couple of years old but works great.
used to have a Yashica FX-3 35mm, but now that I've gone digital I won't go back.
They have gotten so much better then when they first came out.
The Rebel DSLR are supposed to be very good and I think you can use you old lenses with them (not 100% sure). The Nikon D-200 I've used a little and it's even better than my Olympus.
The new Olympus E-410 and E-510 offer the feature of using the lcd instead of the view finder. The first DSLR's to do so.
If you go with Nikon, Canon, Olympus. You should be very happy.
Just have your check book out.

What are you shooting mostly..? I'm definitely getting a camera next year, and some binoculars too...One of my three must haves for the year...

Canon Rebel XT, for the money, is one of the best digital SLR's I have ever put hand on. and I usually am not a fan of Canon, but this is a happy exception we have used since 2005, when babe got hers.

That and the sony handycam keeps us good for the good times!

If money is a concern, don't go the DSLR route-- get a Canon G9 or equivalent. Cheaper, easier to handle, and the image quality is astonishing. SLRs were developed for film, and while at the very high end there still is some optical superiority that matters -- particularly if you're going out to print-- if you're going to be viewing this stuff on a monitor, a first rate compact is going to give you everything you want.

Is is "as good" as a DSLR? Nope, not quite. But its nearly as good, less expensive, and you're much more likely to have it with you when a good shot comes up

If you stick with the cannon - you can have interchangable lenses.....
...nothing wrong with being a little practical

Yeah, and I already have a Canon w/a couple lenses, so I'll probably definitely stick with it...

Hopefully will get it around my birthday this year if not before...

A friend/coworker of mine had a nice cannon 35... and went to a rebel so he could use the lenses he already had....

Ahh, those are great...I've always liked Canon, my Grannie shot with a Cannon some 40 years ago, so I never really thought about another brand...But I trust you guys here, so listening to some other POV's was definitely mandatory...Nice to know AF is always here to help...Thanks guys...
