Modem question

I've got a friend who lives way out in the boonies and is using a standard 56K modem on her phone line. The problem is, she regularly gets kicked off line. I suspect it's because the signal on her phone line is weak and the modem drops the call. Do any of you Techies out there have any suggestions or advice or other insights?

Much appreciation on any insight!

Make sure that you block any call waiting, or phone features before you dial up...As a dial up veteran, I think I've tried every fucking trick in the book man, and that one works pretty well...I also don't know how much it helped, but I also put periods in my dial up phone number (eg. 123-4567...) because I was told it may give you priority on some dial up servers...

Have a dedicated wall jack for dial up helps out TREMENDOUSLY...You may have to pay a phone guy $40 or so to come and do the work, but eliminating static noise from the line and using some thick, shielded phone cables helps also...The cables cost about $10 a piece, and almost look like network cables, but they help out alot...

I've got the phone cables for if/when I get enough time to go up there and install them. I could set up a dedicated line for the modem. I'll let her know about the phone features too. Thanks!
