Suspected bag of cocaine actually filled with sugar
January 20, 2008 6:00 AM

NEWBURGH — It was a scene familiar to city police: a man with a clear plastic bag of what appeared to be cocaine in front of a suspected drug house at 3 a.m. Officers originally stopped Dwayne McGriff Friday morning, they said, because he was urinating in front of 52 Lander St.
But when officers tested the white powder, it turned out to be ordinary sugar. McGriff, 38, was charged with exposure of a person and having an imitation controlled substance, a violation of the health code. He was released pending an appearance in City Court.

I wonder what kind of penalties he faces for his "imitation controlled substance" violation. I suppose he's lucky they didn't charge him with some other charge because his last name is so similar to McGruff.

If I tear a filter off a cig and rolled the end to look like a joint, will I be charged with a imitation controlled substance charge?

If you act like your drunk but your really not, can you be charged?
This BS is going a little too far

Even more disturbing...

The fuck can you not tell coke from Sugar..? Even if its the powdered kind...Not even remotely similar, and definitely not something you'd carry in plain sight in a fucking zip lock bag..As for why he was carrying the sugar, who cares..? If I was carrying something and an office stopped me, there'd be no end to the cuss out he'd get...

The cops have to check it out. It didn't say what kind of sugar. Confectionery sugar would look like cocaine. BUT, the Imitation controlled substance charge is BS! Unless they caught him trying to sell it as coke, they have no case. He simply says, "I borrowed this from a friend. I was going to do some baking." The only thing they can get him on is public exposure, and some cities have public urination laws.

The guy had a bag of sugar and he pissed on a wall. Charge him $50 and send him home to bake his cake!
