NEWBURGH — It was a scene familiar to city police: a man with a clear plastic bag of what appeared to be cocaine in front of a suspected drug house at 3 a.m. Officers originally stopped Dwayne McGriff Friday morning, they said, because he was urinating in front of 52 Lander St.
But when officers tested the white powder, it turned out to be ordinary sugar. McGriff, 38, was charged with exposure of a person and having an imitation controlled substance, a violation of the health code. He was released pending an appearance in City Court.
