No More Nightmares...

Just got this movie from my brother called "Darkness Falls"....
It's about an old woman who used to give children gold coins when they lost their teeth...One day she was in a horrible fire, became scarred for life, and only dared to venture out of her house w/a porcelain mask on...Oh, and she would only come out at night after that...Two kids came up missing, they blamed her, hung her, she cursed them, and they founds the kids the next day after they hung her...Yadda yadda yadda...She comes back, haunting one fuckin' kid for no reason...Some supernatural ghost/demon bitch rolling through snatching people, the minute they step foot into the shadows...But, you don't know WHY she's after this one guy...Anyway, the movie, for what it was, was OK...But, it left me wondering...WTF happened to good horror flicks..?
The last good horror movie that I saw was probably "The Ring"...And that's only cause it added another element to it...A really believeable back story...Where you're watchin' and figuring things out and all that...I can remember the first time I saw a horror movie and actually felt scared...
Nightmare on Elm Street...
Man, talk about shitless..! And it wasn't that I was younger...I grew up watchin' Tales from the Darkside and TCSM and shit like that...But Freddy...Man...He fucked a lil dude up...
These days, they call it a horror movie if it includes a few jilts and jolts and all that...But, there's nothing really scary about a pack of kids seeing all kinds of dumb shit, and failing to realize that they're about to die...And dammit, if the black dude don't make it through one movie, I'm writing the Academy to thell them they on some Jerry Kraus BULLSHIT...
To me, what makes a good horror film is an REALLY good back story...The Candyman, for example...I thought it was pretty scary...But, they made a really good point in bringin' out the backstory...All of these ghosts have weaknesses...Something has to be able to stop them...But, if you don't bring it out in a back story what it is, that shit's gonna suck...In The Ring, you learned the back story as the main character learned it...Good stuff...
These days, horror movies are dark comedies...Of course, we should go to the house of a known mass murderer and do a documentary..! That's fun..!
Horror movies are my favorite genre...But, If not already, I think they're dead...
