Despite grabbing gold at the Sony Ericsson Empire Awards, Hot Fuzz helmer Edgar Wright clearly isn’t ready to rest on his laurels just yet. He’s ready to roll on a number of projects starting off with an adaptation of minuscule superhero Ant Man.

He’s been attached to the big-screen version of Marvel's tiny comic book superhero - a character who can communicate with insects - for a while and the time, it seems, has come for the little man to make his move towards the big screen.
“It’s written and we’re doing a second draft of it,” said Wright. “It’s going to be less overtly comedic than anything else I’ve ever done. It’s more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element – in the same spirit of a lot of escapist fare like that. It’s certainly not a superhero spoof or pastiche and it certainly isn’t a sort of Honey I Shrunk The Kids endeavour at all.”

He’s not got anybody in mind to play comicdom’s tiniest hero just yet, so the big question at the moment is what incarnation will the hero take - the goody-two-shoes scientist Hank Pym originated by comic legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby or Ant Man mark-II, the more roguish Scott Lang?

“Ah well, it could be Scott Lang, it could be Hank Pym, it could be both – okay it is both, now there’s an exclusive for you.”

While Wright puts the finishing touches to his script with co-writer Joe Cornish, he’s got some other projects on the boil, including another collaboration with Simon Pegg. Could this be the final part of his so-called Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy?

“That’s one of the things that we’re going to do with Working Title who we’ve just signed a two-picture deal with,” he said. “It will have comedy and a cross-genre in a similar way.

So how will it compare to Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead?

“Well, it’ll be a trilogy in tone but I can’t say any more than that. If you announce what the subject matter is, it can still be 18 months off and by that point everybody would be sick of it.”

Clearly playing his cards close to his chest, we guess we’ll have to wait and see how it’ll all pan out. What do you reckon to the Brist director’s latest revelations? Does he have the Wright stuff?

he better have The Wasp in there.

Henry Pym is the man... a movie about "Ant Man" is but one part of the pym particle equation.

Wasp has to be in there, so we can watch her get beat. The domestic abuse in the Pym line is one of the more compelling human elements.

Then again, I know they better have Mr. Stark get drunk and suit up so we can watch the trainwreck of Iron Man's drinking problem. hehe

This will be a train wreck. If Thor isn't popular enough to make a movie of....Antman? Disaster.

as long as these films are helmed by Marvel Studios directly, i'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. it sure looks like all cylinders are firing on Iron Man & Incredible Hulk thus far.

Yeah dude, I was kinda thinking the same thing...But I guess Marvel has a better than decent track record with these things, so maybe they know some shit we don't...But I'm thinking, maybe definitely aim this for the kids..?

They are doing this wrong!

Just Make the "Atomic Knights [of the Round Table]" movie already!

Henry Pym was awesome, but Ant Man was hardly his whole story.

Banner, Richards, Stark, and Pym... let Doom get blown up, and most of the marvel universe will fall into place.

I think out of all the comic representations in film the biggest disappointment (cause I was never a big Daredevil fan anyway) to me outside of the ENTIRE Batman & Robin fiasco was Dr Doom. I mean this guy is the be all/end all of bad guys. The guy who inspired in some part Darth Vader and he was made into a cross between Electro, Colossus and Dr Troy. He was horrendous and absolutely nothing like the genius comic Doom. If I ever meet Tim Story I'm going to kick him in the nut sack. :x

get in line. my kick is before yours. Story's Doom sucked huge balls. he was about as much Doom as that giant lizard was Godzilla ten years ago or that the Vader at the end of Ep3 is the same as the real Vader from Empire.

Haha...Well the Vader thing doesn't bother me as much even though it was corny only because he was trying to get used to his new body and was in melodramatic anguish (I know I'm reaching but I just try to accept it). Godzilla definitely sucked, I don't know what they were thinking there. Doom was just so smarmy and like a bad Lex Luthor impression. I just can't understand how Marvel ever allowed that actor and director and that origin to get anywhere near (in my opinion) the greatest villain ever in comics. It was unforgivable. This isn't like Tommy Lee Jones fucking up Two Face or something this was DOOM! He is the kinda villain they coulda actually started with his own movie and then had him individually take on every other Marvel hero in there own movies or at least shown in the background as the Big Bad behind each threat in each movie. Fuckin Tim Story!

well yeah, Doom is one of the best baddies. what pisses me off the most is the fact Story had him on the space trip & powered by it along with the other 4.. c'mon! one of the best things about him is just like Stark his powers come from that genius albeit twisted intellect which created all that tech & state-of-the-art armor. & that was totally ignored!.
