I was looking at Google Trends data this morning for several open-source IT management/monitoring companies, Hyperic, Zenoss, and Groundwork. I wanted to see what some changes to the company's management teams and marketing messages had done for site traffic.
In so doing, I was surprised to see a massive spike in traffic to Zenoss.com for the month of April 2008. I track open-source companies pretty closely, and couldn't think of any particular news that would drive the interest.

Drilling into the data, however, it would appear that someone hijacked Zenoss.com for porn purposes. To get to Hyperic people searched for things like "java user-agent is unknown" and "feedback loop." To get to Zenoss.com? Well, let's just say that the search terms used to find Zenoss are not nearly as pleasant.
I also doubt they pay much to Zenoss. Think of how dejected those porn-seekers must be when the land on Zenoss.com, thinking they're in for a wild time. IT management is not the sexiest product category on the planet, whatever the search engines may be telling you. :-)
Update: It appears that Zenoss' forums have been hit with spambots that inject porn content. So when Google crawls the forums (under Zenoss.com), it indexes all the search terms and relates them to Zenoss, including porn, unfortunately. Zenoss is doing just fine, thank you very much, without these unwelcome visitors.
