It is an open source web browser created by Google with a similar philosophy as Firefox. No doubt Google will promote it quite heavily in the near future.

If anybody can compete w/Firefox its Google...With a talented group of employees and a reputation for simply making shit better, this Google browser may be full of pleasant surpises...If Google can resist the temptation to whore it out, it could be good....Worth a look anyway...

Ty, to be honest, Chrome's main competitor is IE rather than Firefox. Mozilla gets most of their funding from Google anyway.
A lot of the features seem quite cool, although I haven't actually tried it. Most of them are coming to other browsers too (have been in development for quite a bit).

I'd already use Chrome over IE in a heartbeat anyway...Chrome has so far started to replace K-Mel as my second browser, my Firefox 3 is too tricked out and does to much shit to ever be replaced...But if I'm not online downloading, Chrome is like my side arm when I don't need to break out the 50 cal...It's really, really fast...

The browser wars are heating up and this is a good thing. Since Chrome and Firefox can share code now we can expect faster and better open source browsers. Hopefully this will also draw people away from Internet Explorer and its lack of compliance with standards (amongst other things).
Many people do see Chrome as a move by Google to compete with Micro$oft for control of the web. Good luck to whoever. So long as open source keeps gaining such traction and technology this can only be a good thing.

Read mixed reports, mainly good, but still no Linux version. :?: :disappoint: When they do come out with one I will try it.

At the moment it looks like a linux version is far off. Major portions of it have been coded mainly for windows rather than with cross portability in mind. This has surprised many people it seems.

Guess I have no use for a browser that won't work with Adblock Plus or something that does the same job. Like Cayce Pollard in William Gibson's Pattern recognition I've become allergic to ads, for me they're simply unacceptable on the web.
Didn't take long for the FF themers to come up with something 'Chromey'..........:)
