I am sure of the truth in prayer within the individual..
But shit like praying for the Tsunami victims, does that actually have any affect??

I believe that it does. Our prayers do make a difference. God hears our prayers and answers them.
There are many intances in where people can tell that there are others who are praying for them and thinking about them and it helps.
Prayer is powerful...even praying for tsunami victims

You talk about prayer but not about faith, it is impossible to have one without the other. Without faith then God may hear but God won't act because your saying, help me even though I doubt that you will. Prayer and Faith go hand and hand you cant have one without the other.
"IMPOSSIBLE"

That's not true. There are many intances in where people turn to God because of answers to there prayers.
WHen people pray to ask God to show them that He is real, He does most of the time. According to what you say, he never will because they don't have the faith already for God to answer that prayer.
God answers prayers to show people that He is real and exists.
That Spiritual ATandT shit...

I have a slightly different belief...
I believe that there are those of us who "intercept" prayers that are intended for God, and put them to good use...
Omnipotent as he may be, I do think that God looks to a chosen few people that he looks to do his work...I don't think that our God is one that wants to be heard only when YOU want to talk to him...
Some people just want to call on God when shit is hard for them...I don't think the God I pray to is very receptive to those people, AFTER the first time...
I think the trick is this...You do your deeds and you open yourself to God...And when when break through (this is something you will physically feel) you have what I like to call a "direct line"...Rather than wait for you downloads, your shit comes right fast, LoL...A subscriber account...
I know there are MANY instances when I feel things are put on my heart, things I know I'm supposed to do...And I do what I can...I will definitely speak my
for the victims and their families, but I would much rather think of it in another way, as a message...
When you look at the mass loss of life, you should instantly want to take notice that you still have your own, and embrace those around you...There is only so much that you can do for those people...Many of them are gone, and in better place...Pray for those providing relief, and take control of your own life, take that feeling that you felt when you first heard about it, and bring it home...
In praying for them, you will effectively pray for yourself...

pray for tsunami victims, pray for the survivors. Pray that this event leads them closer to the realization of their own essential truths and helps solidify their own essence of being.
Pray for them to understand this happened for a reason other than their suffering.
Pray for their endurance and well-being, and pray that the relief we aim to provide doesn't result in an economic tsunami in the US.

Another way to put this, is that some people have developed higher "octaves" of thought and being and they can "uplift" the prayers of others, that Sandalphon may weave garlands from the prayers, to offer to Metatron, that he may adorn the Throne of the Lord with the Aspirations of Humanity.

raum, when you say pray, do you mean so that you will be able to understand more what they went through, understand that you can help them more, etc..
or that God actually receives the prayer and speaks the Truths into their lives?

disclaimer: my babe did the smiley story. for attention. mine. [-(
DeEje,
when i say I "pray" or "prayers", I speak of practices i have learned in over a decade, this being on of them that applies... Try to calm yourself and focus your "body of light" (hadam ha-aur) to rise out of yourself and ascend to the physical point in the world where they are, gather up all the "scattered energies" of the area, all the vain requests, all the desperation, all the indignation, and all the "negative" shit. And take it within yourself, and WITHIN YOURSELF call forth the name of God who tears down the obstacle of division between those members of mankind; solidify the whole thing into cohesive sphere around you, and erupt vertically as a "glittering sword", "flaming arrow", (you get what i mean; "beam of light" just don't do it justice), and let it disappear into the heavens. and then one you do it a few times, you don't pass out any more when you do it.
there ARE ALL KINDS OF FACTORS that can affect your success, but the practice of making the "cries of deperation" of others pure that they may peirce through the "formative plane" where they may be carried is to me, one of the only avenues of service worth performing...and what i am here to do.
this is the true goal of internal alchemy, religion, and science.
For me, there are two kinds of "prayer," an Invocation (reinforcing the Godhood of my own being with dedication to the Lord of the Universe), which can often simply be experienced by others as a silence where the air seems to be "buzzing" around me. the other is a process of using my own willpower to enact things in my life I am dictated to do. I originally did this under strict direction, but have alot more control over this than most, as i have earned it by my natural attunement to the Sephor Ha-Chokmah (Blazing Sphere of Wisdom). I have enough memory of past manifestations of the cumulative energy I bear, to allow me to tap the resources far greater than the sum of humanity. This involves communicating and interacting with non-physical beings, or personifications of natural phenomenon. As with all beings, they are, in terms, limited to what they can do, and the trick is really more like knowing who to call, which involves a long training practice.
Some people ask "God" to do it All. I know who God makes do it, and I ask them directly, and have served The Lord of the Universe, formally and informally, enough to have some clout in the "grand scheme."
In the Qabalistic tradition, I am a Speaker of the Names, as was Enoch and Moses, and Jeshua Jehovasha (Jesus, to the Greeks and the Christian). There is truth to these stories but it is not yet written in English. To the Persians, this "man" was known as a Majunjun, or Magician, as it is now spelled. As was my grandfather who was a Minister, and a Master of the Name, and a Founder in the Scottish Rite (oldest in his generation), and my Uncle (oldest in his generation), who right now lives and fights the tyranny of mankind in Korea as a Speaker of the Name, and has for more than 20 years. As you might suspect, I am oldest in my generation, and it runs in my family.
So, to pray passively, lest you recieve "permission" to pray actively, is best if you like things the way they are in your life. just tithe your spirit to the Lord that provided it. but for some of us, as Ayhja pointed out, we bear the responsibility (good and bad) of speaking the names that open the gate between the Lord of the Universe and his Creation, for more "direct" influence. The process of paying actively the way I sppeak of, takes years to develop. Ask Ayhja for his account of witnessing the experience of me "speaking the name."
