Ok lets say hyperthetically aliens come to earth in their mother ships and land on our small planet. What do you think this event will do to the current belief of religion?

To your knowledge does any religious books speak of beings on another planet? And if they dont what do you think will happen to our current religious belief system? Will we just let go of it or adapt the relgious books and say yes this religion does speak of it and is the one we should follow?

Any views?

Ultimately I see most religion as man trying to talk to Aspects Of Himself. In some cases it is just a guide to give one a code of morals & ethics. If aliens came & they could provide equal or better enlightenment than most organized religion, I can see a lot of people ditching said religious sects almost instantaneously. Especially in this day & age.

I agree Jig...I don't think the idea of religion is beyond any civilization...There should immediately be recognized the minute that you assume someone is beneath you in power, that someone would be above you in power...Life, realization of self...Should play a part in any species...

About your questions, here's what I think I know...I think that there are some religions that will allow for the existence of other beings...I think with the vague interpretations of the bible that exist, I'm sure that even Christians will find a workaround scripture to support ET's...But there are some others that will simply not hold up...I'm not sure what they would do except find a new way to worship...

I do not follow a religion...I'm more like Chancellor Palpatine, if one is to understand something completely, you have to learn all sides of it, not just what's convenient or easy...For something as critical as your soul or salvation, I seem to find that most people are just too casual about it...I'm pretty sure that if there was a confirmed case of ET's arriving on earth, a slight bit of chaos would ensue...One thing is for sure, they would be more advanced than us in many ways, and certainly different...I would want to learn from them, listen and observe them, but even an alien couldn't convince me that their religion is the way...But certainly, there would be millions of people in disarray over such a thing...

Personally I think of Religion of more of a guideline to lead people to live a life that is socially acceptable, basically what society deems is right and wrong in terms of their morals and values at the time.

Though I wouldn't say I'm against Religions like Christianity or Chatholism, I have more or less a subpar view of both and if Aliens ever did land on Earth, I'm positive they'd just rewrite the bible to include their existence. As far as I know(which isn't very much) it does not state specifically in the bible that life-forms besides those that which live on Earth do not exist and I doubt those who hold power within these religions communities will let something like Aliens take power and followers away from them. Though I'd be really interested to see how they will adapt to this as Man is supposed to be the image of the almighty lord but then here comes trotting in a bunch of scientifically advanced race(which I assume has no similiaries to humans) who are probably superior than us in everyway. Wonder what that would do to our human egos who are supposed to be the superior race on Earth.

As for other Religions like Hindi, Buddhism, and Taoism, ET lifeforms have never been brought up and as far as I know, and from what I understand, I doubt it will affect followers of these Religions in any sort of a major way.(Made this post before reading Ubers, sorry for repeat)
