Hey AFers,

I am a bit confused. Obviously, this is not the first time I am using cologne. However, I will admit that I am not so sure about how to apply cologne.

I usually spray it on my shirts. However, when I went to buy a new Hugo Boss today, the lady at the store told me that it is not supposed to be applied on the shirt. She said it should be applied on the neck. When she told me that I was perplexed as it is tough to believe that it would smell on you at all if you put it on your neck. Furthermore, the people that always smell great, when they pass by, it always seems like the nice smell is coming from their clothes as opposed to their body. I could be wrong though because the smell goes in the air right and I cannot be sure?

Anyway, how do you guys apply your cologne? On your cloth that you are about to wear or on your body? I would like to know. And how much/how many "pumps" do you use whenever you are spraying it?

You don't wanna go nuts witht he stuff cause then you smell like an Italian....HAHA I kid my Italian friends here. But really you don't wanna do that. Spray a teenie bit on your inside wrists. The top of your head and your neck but with all three spots just a tiny tiny bit. Otherwise people will think you're from Jersey.

Psychologically, with the spraying on the wrists and your neck, I just feel like the cologne will not smell enough y'know? I guess I will have to give it a try. I have been doing it wrong all my life -- I always spray about 6 pumps overall on my shirt -- 2 on my left & 2 on my right armpit side of my shirt. Finally, 2 on the front of my shirt. I will start doing it on the wrists. I will see how that goes. I just hope it smells, because that is the whole point right?

DL, I guess by a "tiny tiny bit" you mean less than a full pump of the nozzle?

YEAUP! A tiny squirt. You don't want the girls knowing your coming through the door 20 minutes before you get there. Just a little bit will do ya. ;)

I spray my neck and upper chest. Just a spray on each side of the neck and one in the middle of my chest. Your body's oils will bring out the smell and make it last.

Only women put it on their wrists.

I also put a tad bit on my neck and a nice complete spray on my chest.


Girls will smell it on your neck when they give you a hug or are dancing with you.

As far as clothes v. body. In my opinion you'd rather have it on your body. The ultimate goal is to end up with your clothes off, right? Why have it all on your clothes and nothing on your body? The smell comes through if you put it on your body, but much less so. And really, you don't want to be the guy that everyone gets a whiff of when you walk by, at least I don't.

Keeps the sprays moderate, put them on your body, and chest/neck are the best spots in my opinion.

Bro, any woman will tell you...Its better to have her get closer to you to get a whiff of what you smell like, as opposed to her being able to smell you from across the room...As its been said, you only want to spray a bit on the neck and chest, you never want to put it on your clothes, that's when its most obnoxious...

What I used to do when that kind of thing was important was to use kits...Same soap, same body wash, deodorant, shaving cream, etc...While it may seem like overload, if you get quality stuff it will add great levels to the way you smell...I barely use cologne anymore, I use body washes with matching deodorant, and MAYBE a light bit of body spray...

Some very interesting opinions guys, thanks. Keep it going. I have been so silly for years putting cologne on my clothes. I have stopped it now though, and I have noticed that the cologne actually smells more and lasts longer when I apply on my body. When I sweat it actually smells out more.
