Ran across this quote about gamers which I thought was funny.

"What do you mean I have no life?!?! I'm a gamer! I have lots of lives!"

Gamers have lives. It's the developers of those games that do not.

Can someone explain to me why the stereotype that gamers have no real life exists?

It seems to me that it is representative of like .0005% of gamers, which isn't really enough to make it the generalized stereotype it seems to have become.

Calling gamers nerds...sure, I have no problem with that. But people who enjoy playing video games are no different than people who enjoy seeing movies or watching tv, or any other hobby really. And there isn't even really a game out there anymore that people play incessantly that doesn't involve other people. (I'm thinking WoW, Halo, all the CoD's, sports games) Like..they all are played most often with other people, so it's not even like its antisocial.

I know this wasn't the point of your post 5829, so this clearly isn't directed at you, but I'm genuinely curious about this if anyone wants to offer up a response.

I'm not a gamer, so I can't comment as one. But I think that it is the mass media portrayal of a stereotypical gamer of someone who sits in their house all day long doing nothing but playing games. That and the conventions they attend. Don't know how many gaming conventions there are but they probably get it confused with comic and Sci-Fi conventions.

Its just media propaganda. Media always needs targets to push and a agenda to or against. You gotta remember America is still very strict country all the way around. So statements like this still happen to this day.
Its kinda sad when you actually sit down and think about it. Its an out of date stigma which should buried.
Noone would say Ice T has no life yet hes a voice actor in Gears of war 3.

The only way this stuff will die off is when the old white people who push this agenda die off.
