I definitely would not let my daughter use Facebook. If it weren't for being able to reconnect with some old friends I wouldn't even use it. So many people are like addicts on it.

I have a really great relationship with my Mom, we're FB friends...

Even if FB had been around when I was a teenager, I don't think that I would have minded being friends with my Mom...It's a level of maturity thing I think...If you got some shit you don't want your parents to know about, then you probably shouldn't be doing it anyway...A smart parent realizes that kids are individuals, not carbon copies or vessels for vicarious living...You should celebrate your child's independence, and look at it as a way to bond with them a little more and ease them into the world

Actually, their parents are forcing them to. We're talking about teens. I had a friend whose son mouthed off to her on FB (he posted from his account on her wall) and she removed entire internet and cell phone access.

If a parent is forcing their kid to do that, they need therapy. She got just what she deserved by forcing the add on her kid & getting abused online.

No, it's called "parental guidance". Too many kids are bullying each other through social networking these days. As a parent you want to be aware of what is going on in your kid's life. The last thing I'd want is for my kid to go hang herself because some boy called her ugly.

You aren't a parent I take it?

Kids will bully each other regardless of whether it's online or in person. Way of the world. Teenagers are still entitled to their privacy. If I remember correctly, You must be 13 or 5 to sign up for FB. They don't need apron strings at that age.

Being online makes it easier due to anonymity.

No, teenagers are not entitled to anything. That's why they are still not legally an adult until the age of 18.

Unless a 13 year old can pay his/her own rent and food and drive a car he/she still needs apron strings.

Children have rights. Just like anybody else. Just because they cannot support themselves doesn't mean they cannot support themselves.
