Here are the contenders/choices of the tablets I'm contemplating, please feel free to weigh in with your opinion, probably going to have to get one within the next couple of weeks...I am with Sprint, but having 3G or wireless connectivity isn't paramount, I can tether with my phone if need be...

#1. ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101-A1

#2. Acer Iconia Tab A500-10S16u

#4. HTC EVO View 4G/Jetstream

No help here. Have not looked at tablets. But from what I understand the ipad requires an itunes account to hook up to your PC and itunes will not run under Linux. Don't know about the others compatible with Linux but it is something that might be worth looking into if you not running Windows or Apple.

Damn! I didn't know HTC were in the tablet game. I've played around extensively with all the others mentioned above though & a few more that aren't in that list such as the Toshiba Thrive & Blackberry Playbook. So far, The only one that makes me drool bigtime is the EEE Slate:

Playing with that chumpie made me wanna walk out the store with it.

From those that I have played with, I'd go for the Asus Transformer. For that price it can't be beat.

I think Xoom has limitations & feels very brittle.

Compared to the Transformer that's almost $100 cheaper and a lot nicer? Nah.

I just got a Xoom, no real complaints..! Gonna use it to develop with until this comes out next month:

Quad-Core in a tablet..? Actually its 5 cores, 1 core is dedicated to running background tasks...

FTW!

I'm going to wait for Windows 8 to come out and get a tablet with that on it. I got an HTC Arrive from Sprint and it's running Windows Phone 7.5 and it's truly amazing. What a nice interface. Best smart phone UI on the market IMO. Looking forward to seeing Windows 8 on a tablet so I can get one. Hopefully it takes USB and can read an external NTFS hard drive.

Yup, Me too. I want the option of being able to thoroughly scope out both Windows 8 and Android's Ice-Cream Sandwich before I commit to buying a tablet.
