Cheap (and good) portable storage

My PC still has plenty of space, but at the same time it's kind of a pain to move stuff. I have a rather ancient USB drive and even my CD/DVD burner is starting to show its age.

Anyway, Ive been seeing some Western Digital HDDs, particularly the 320 and 500GB dropping to ~$60. Even the 1TB ones are starting to trend downwards.

I'm also thinking about a bigger USB and cramming it full of goodies: portable Linux, browser and misc tools that way I don't have to install a bunch of stuff every time I'm trying to get another computer running

I am utilizing at least 2 or 3 of every storage method you are, and then some...For less than $25 usually, you can get a 32 GB MicroSD card, or even a SD card and that will give you more flexibility across platforms...You can get an SD card reader for less than $5 bucks, and you'll have a cross platform storage solution that will make you happy...You could have a stack of SD cards no bigger than 4 quarters that will hold over 100 GB of data...

I have 2 Western Digital MyBook drives, each of them 1 TB...I also have a 500 GB MyBook, and a smaller 80 GB WD Passport Drive...I have at least 4 4GB thumbdrives and an 8 GB thumbdrive for those tools and what not you mentioned...

Because I use my phones, tablets, and PC's together, I'm thinking seriously of sticking with MicroSD cards, especially since I don't really need them to perform...

Good point about the SD cards. I do have a spare memory stick lying around but it's only 1 GB. Wasn't that long ago that I would have been ecstatic to have 1 GB instead of a handful of MB, lol.

Things are definitely easier now. The only straggler right now is my PSP, but given how it's falling into vulture land I suppose the memory sticks will drop down soon enough.

The WD 2tb passport drives are now below $150. I know as I scored one a couple of months ago.
