They are not the "omitted" neither are they the "added". they are called the "Apocrypha" in the Greek, the Occultum in Latin - The "Hidden Away."
The problem is they are not the real Apocrypha. The *real* Apocrypha were books the secret orders of Jews (and others) revealed to only their inner members, who had knowledge and wisdom to guide them through their pages. They were excluded from the Tanakh, the "Jewish Canon."
These books are not those. For those, you have to know where to look and who to ask. hint, hint.
The word Apocrypha has lost its exclusive meaning and has gained a greater use and scope, including books that were omitted from the New Testament.
I wouldn't stare too hard at the pages of the Interdeuternomical texts looking for the secrets to the "Bible Code" or something, most are, but a source of comparitive reading for linguistics reveals they are from the same ages and their biblical counterparts, and the subject matter is in the same structure and often comes to the same conclusion.
Think of it as the "director's cut" of the bible,.. with all the footage most people wouldn't sit through.
The person who raised the biggest stink about this was Martin Luther, who was the person who decided to say every word of the bible was inspired by God, and written for his glorious and mysterious purpose, a distinction that had been reserved for certain obviously cryptic passages of the Tanakh.
