The value of conflict

A school of music that studies the rhythm of nature, a school of fashion that studies the elegance of the Universe, a school of design that studies the architecture of the ancients, a school of philosophy that studies the time-tested Truth.

The value of conflict

What is the true value of conflict, in your eyes.

Does adversity make us grow stronger? Does it bring us closer together?

When i was growing up, and we was bored, we'd fight. Me and my cousins fought like we was mortal enemies, but let another kid ANY KID touch a one of us,.. and it was time for the Avengers to assemble, if you know what I mean.

and since we fought all the time, we fought like you can only hurt people when you train for it.

What do you do with your friends to create the friction that sharpens the edge you need when the time comes, for real?

Let's see.
Normally it's just me and my cousin.. And me and my cousin fucking "whomp" on each other.. We be like let's do it.. And everyhing... We refrain from hitting too hard in the face and shit but we do occasionly get a good impacting shot in the jaw.. But about every other week, we'll each have black and purple bruises all up down our arms, legs, chests, and like I said, occasionally the face...

Does it bring us closer? I don't know..
Does it put us in a state of mind that makes us feel like we are ready to fight when the time comes? I would have to say so...

And of course, boxing! I love boxing! But I havent did it in months (never professional, just some 9oz gloves (i know small) and two heads in the backyard.. and each box like 3 differnt people that day)...

And I do not understand what your poll question is stating? Face to face? Side to side? Back to back??

When I was in HS, I used to fight with my younger brother all the time (18 months younger, but bigger than I was). For a while he had the advantage, then I grew 3 inches over the summer and I made up for lost time. I broke his nose several times, knocked him out cold when we were boxing, and got into one brouhaha that ended up with me on his chest with a broomstick across his throat. We're closer than ever now, but Lord, in those days... I wanted to kill him most of the time. But you're right too, if anyone took on one of us, he took on all of us. Even though there are miles between us now, it's the same way: attack my brother, attack me... and the game is ON!

To me, fighting is a life and death sitatution. Yes, I can be entertained by TV wrestling, and love it when a punchup erupts during the NRL State of Origin, but otherwise- you (well I) fight to kill.

I have only fought when I feel my life is challenged, mainly due to physical abuse and especially emotional abuse. There is a point when bullying goes beyond little scuffles and obscene remarks, and when that point is reached, I feel like the perpertrator has no consideration for my existence and wants to cause my extermination, hence my life is challenged.
Therefore, I feel it is only necessary to turn that energy back to exterminate the purpetrator, and being prepared to die in the process.

I take fighting VERY seriously............

Thank God I have killed no person.

I haven't been in many fights...I've always pretty much been able to get along with everyone I've been around...I was challenged to fight many times and showed no fear, and that pretty much means people don't fuck with you...I've busted a few eyes, mouths, and never been made to bleed myself...

I am a trained boxer, so of course I've done that...

Me and my brother are about 5 years apart, so fighting w/him has never been serious...We tussled alot, but never really threw blows...We got along really well, and only a few times ever did it get out of hand...So, I vote for figting back to back, as there aren't many people I'd give my back to in a situation that required it...

The other people are Smith and Wesson...

I have a two years older sister so i could never shut her mouth with a kick, so all fight had and has been dialectical.
I've never fought with a stranger beside martial arts competitions, just some minors incidents. but if a friend needs me i'll be there.

My worst "Fight" was when once i was running at school when someone put a leg on purpose so i hit the ground with my face i was so angry that once i saw the nearer pair of legs next to me i jumped from the gound and almost cut him in two by a fist to the stomach he was a friend of my trying to help me, i've never felt more stupid than then.

Offtopic: You are a experienced boxer A? you remind me that my dad went to a Box gym when he was young and we used to fight when i was about six and i guess till eleven years old every night beside my parents bed while my mother was cooking, damn that's was cool!

Yup Fap, I trained for 2 years under a professional fighter...Boxing, and kickboxing both...I learned how to defend myself sure, but the workout is why I loved it...I can safely say that there was nothing harder than training for that shit man...I have crazy respect for peeps that can go more than 4 rounds...I tried twice to take friends with me to workout (not to spar, just the exercise part) one threw up, and the other almost shitted on himself...LoL...So, it was just me and my Master for the most part...

CDR I know what you mean, it's amazing how easy seems to stand just 5 rounds of three minutes for example when you are watching it sitting in a couch.
I've been in taekwondo competitions and when you are there you forgot all the theory you've trained you just wanna survive that other dude throwing you kicks and punchs!

I can't say i learn to defend myself, but i got some impressive talent to avoid any fight.

the funnest fight i was in was with a dude who was like eight inches taller than me, and his momma was running cross the street beggin me not to kill her baby before I even moved... and his older brother had a gun behind his back on the porch. That kid woke up a changed man. I just knew keep the punk close and his brother ain't gonna shoot and I walked off, while his momma woke him up and began whompin on him for instigating a battle with a man the whole neighborhood knew used to train in the military and had never locked his front door in the last four years. All this at about three in the morning on the street in west oakland, while I was walkin to the corner store.

a week later the kid came to my house, apologized so his momma would let him back in the house and asked me how i laid him out, cause he didn't remember getting hit once. I told him "pray every night you never find out."

so glad i made it past my twenties,.. hope that kid makes it past his.

vertical,
raum
