Hypocricy. Celibacy was never actually required by Jesus. Celibacy was implemented because of two reasons:

The first was when the catholics were being hunted down by the romas. If you had no family they could not use it against you.

The second and most important had to do with the personal possessions and inheritance. If you had no children then nobody except the church could claim whatever you possessed. Homosexuality was of course not even considered at the time, as it produced no offspring (the fact that it was and is not accepted by the church is a whole other matter)

the history of Celibacy in Christianity comes from the Essenes, who regarded it as sacred and ideal. This is something they inherited from Pythagoras's Academy... and predates even the myth of Christ. It is however known that children of this world are sexual beings, therefore, if they must have sex, it is best they marry and commit the act to God's will.

There is ONE particular time when sex is performed, and in a context of union with the Shekinah, a ritual which is paralleled to the immersion of the aspirant into the Jordan, whihc is symbolic of the sexual act. This ritual is not liekly spoken about, and takes place in a period of complete fasting. The violation of the taboo dramatically changes the Aspirant's polarized view of the world. One could imagine it as Jesu's death and resurrection, as many cultures have their suffering servant enduring something similar - the intolerable pain crying for release. This is why the sun in its cycle is seen as phallic.

That said, I don't know much about Catholics, or their practices...I know that I went to a service once with a girlfriend who was Catholic (O' the things we do for ass) and it was the absolute most boring thing I could ever have imagined...I think I lost my erection for a week after that...No morning wood, no nothing...

Either way, celibacy is celibacy, and gay or not, if that's the lay of the land, then that's how it is...

Not quite. You are correct in its concept but not on how it became a rule. It was started in monasteries, but was not a requirement of the church by any means. It was Pope Siricius that in 385 tried to impose celibacy on the clergy. In addition to the idea that sex was sinful, there was real danger of the church's possessions being lost if the clergy who were in charge of these riches were married and wanted their children to inherit them. This was a very serious issue at the time. And even then it did not become compulsory till Pope Gregory VII.

In fact, priests are required to follow celibacy, not chastity, which of course is the source of much controversy and discussion and the reason of your original question.
