Convertible Notebook/Tablet

ok, i got my girl a new computer...

Check it out Here

And it is not bad. It definitely has me looking for a tablet pc convertible notebook. It is invaluable for the artist or photographer, and sometimes its just nice to write.

I like this style of computer, and think it is worth mentioning that the convertible notebook is a perfect tool for a modern professional or student. It enables you to record meetings while jotting notes (heard thye mic isn't that sensitive, though), it takes things like crossword puzzles to a new level, and some games interact well with the pen/mouse substitution. The plastic film can be left on the screen for longevity, and for the $349 warranty, you get four years complete service and replacement and three screen replacements. You have to buy extra RAM (up to 2 gigs), and it interacts well with extrenal drives. Also, the battery is an external unit, but that means you can purchase another and leave it on the charger. In short, once she figures out how to configure it, it will be well worth it, and the wireless modem is capable of sniffing out even the weakest signals of distant hotspots.

The problem is that it is a gateway, and comes with so much FREE crap you are unable to use it because it all needs to update when you pull it out of the box, and when everything has to update at once, it just locks up. Not the fault of ther machine, just beyond its limits.

you have any other suggestions in the same range? the only other thing i saw was a toshiba, but it would not run nearly as fast with the obsolete memory they use in the box.

cause i was looking at this:

http://reviews.cnet.com/Gateway_NX850XL ... ml?tag=nav

the main point is i want to look at getting a convertible notebook, and the toshiba is slower and runs hotter.

i was iffy about getting a gateway, and it is still buggin a bit, but when it is on,.. it is on point!

why do you say format it? should we get you to come out and config it for her? I'll get ya a ticket.

Mentor...

I would give you a Gateway before I would give you a Toshiba...Gateways aren't THAT bad, they just have to be spec'd out properly, or they will run like shit...They are made to sell to dummies, which means it will be $300 dollars more than it should be, and full of trash...You want something as close to barebones as possible, which will be both better and cheaper...Of course, you'll have to install many things yourself, but the advantages to this are many...

The warranty is the 1337, but the financial plan will fuck you to death, so pay for it as much as you can, you make the payments on it, or you will be paying for it forever...I have had to recommend to customers to simply stop paying for it, LoL...

I say format it, cause they will probably give you XP Home with a shitload of trash on it, a bunch of apps that you don't need, hogging resources and taking up a gang of HDD space...As long as you get no less than 512 of RAM and a 5400 RPM drive, you should be OK...If you are intending it to be your main PC, that's one thing, but if you intend to have a desktop, you can probably get them to downgrade any and all software, minus your original copy of XP Professional...You'll probably save about 3 stacks by opting out of their software package...

If possible and if you want, I will help you spec one out, and make sure you're OK...On top of that, lots of my old friends and some of my close family work there, I can make sure anything you need is taken care of...So, if you must go mainstream, I would go w/Gateway and we can make sure any returns, specs, replacements , upgrades, etc are taken care of properly, and maybe a hook up too... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

and despite public opinion, AYHJa agreed for my purposes (must have TOTAL replacement, support, and professional UELA0, it is a good buy and a great box, and I got a full gig of RAM DDR2, and a 80 gig harddrive, and i can take it to them with a shotgun blast through it, and they will replace it within three days, AT NOT A PENNY COST TO ME.
