Hero
I watched this movie tonight. I think it was rim who suggested it to me for the use of colour. I have to agree, the use of colour was amazing.
Because of the subtitles and the extraordinary use of colour, I'll definitely have to watch it a second time, though. I'll have to look more indepth into each colour.
I was a little disappointed with the end at first. You expect something to happen... but nothing really happened... until the last couple minutes. lol After thinking about it for a couple hours, though, I've decided that I did like the ending. It was tragic, but you walked away actually feeling good.
As for the battles... holy christ! They put the Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to shame. Completely unrealistic with all the floating, but amazing nonetheless.

if you watch the scene where man is playing the erhu (the two string chinese harp, and you see that the whole movie is a mediation cycle toward achieving attainment, and the "Emperor is the ego which must be annhilated to reveal the true self. all the bates are conflicts which arise which ALMOST break the meditation of the Shieh. watch it again, and see if you can identifiy the characters as the Jungian archetypal facets of a fragmented psyche which seeks the completion of self-fulfillment.
the whole movie is a metaphor for the Journey of the Hero, as described by Joseph Campbell. hence the name of the movie.

I just...Didn't dig this movie...
Beyond the fight with Donnie Yen, one of the great martial artists of our time, I just lost interest...
No, I take that back...After than changed the story for about the forth fucking time, I was like good grief man...I just wanted to end it at some point, but they kept coming back with shit...My feelings were hurt, and after seeing Unleashed, I will probably never watch or rent another Jet Li flick ever again...
You want to see somebody kicking some ass, rent Ong-Bak, the Thai Warrior...Guy does all his own stunts and that shit is amazing...A little slow to start, but by the end of the movie, you'll be checking for this dude on Google Maps...

the story changes as the Hero evolves through the Five material elements of chinese philosophy. The creative and destructive cycles play out wonderfully, according to the Wu Hsing.
This movie is a meditation on the patterns characteristic of the chinese pentagram.
it is not meeant to be continuous,.. it is alchemical, and has to be appreciated as such.
Nei gung Tai chi,
Bing sing hung yat gwong,
Han lin tu ho.
(That's Han'lin two hoe, to you fools!) /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I thought that House of Flying Daggers was better than Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but Ong Bak was alright.

I'd rather a movie with a story. Anyone can film 2 hours of fighting and call it a movie. Shit man, Rumble in the Bronx is filled with fights, and Jackie Chan does his own stunts, but that doesn't make it a good movie.

i have to agree with kramer. Hero is a movie with a lot of depth, and it goes waaaay back in chinese culture. its more than just a movie about kicking some ass, it goes to a much more deep and fundamental lvl of the human pysche. now im all for an insane fight scene, and i still go back to crouching tiger hidden dragon for that. but i like a movie with depth that makes you think. and when it has a good fight scene or two, it makes it all the better
