Hillary Clinton really is an idiot. She should be kicking herself for a looong time.
Clinton's 'plantation' remark draws fire
"In her speech Monday, Clinton, who has never served in the House, told the audience that "when you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talking about.""

that's not a foolish thing to say (when it is true), just a foolish way to say it. it's a retort to an earlier comment, and commitment, made by Newt Gingrich.
Newt Gingrich, from the October 20, 1994 Washington Post: "I clearly fascinate them. I'm much more intense, much more persistent, much more willing to take risks to get it done. Since they think it is their job to run the plantation, it shocks them that I'm actually willing to lead the slave rebellion."
He said far worse implications, and yet recieved almost no criticism.
Incidentally, the word "plantation" can be defined as for "a settlement created for cultivation." There is no connotation of evil, slavery, tyranny, or cruelty. It is essentially a synonym for colony, with a negative past originating in the 1700's, that was a term existing as a benign word for more than 300 years before that, when "plantation" was the "process of planting, or where planting was performed." It first entered politics as a means of describing the process of "cultivating one's own ideaology, and filling all governmental seats with people who share it, or hold similar views. This is contrary to the idea that the most learned, experienced and qualified candidates should be appointed, regardless of their party affiliation or difference in views. This ensures a party dominance of politics, which is of no interest to the American people, as a whole.
but she is still foolish for using the term, and leaving herself open to criticism. And she is even more foolish to think so. A great deal of democratic influence is in the administration, right now. Wolfowitz is a registered democrat, for instance - and prescribed the Bush doctrine.
and the "you know what I am talking about" is a far more foolish comment for any public speaker to make. It presumes you are just stating the obvious, and no one needs to listen to you, anyways. Clearly, this was a liberal attempt at rhetoric that backfired, if not failed outright.
