The results are finally coming in. So far only results from Atlantic Canada are being reported. The Liberals are expected to do decent in the region. At the current moment the numbers are:

Liberals: 24
Conservatives: 11
NDP: 5

The Conservatives are down right now, but they will make up ground once the results for Western Canada are released.

In order to form a majority government in the 308-seat Parliament, a party needs 155 seats.

I feel as although I should already know this from reading your blog, but what's your political affiliation..?

Results are now pouring in from Ontario and Quebec and some of Western Canada. Here is an update:

Conservatives: 105
Liberals: 86
Bloc: 50
NDP: 23

Ja, I'm a New Democrat. My party had 18 seats when the government fell. Right now we have 23.

With the votes slowing down, the Conservatives will definitely form a minority government. Parliament will look like the following:

Conservatives: 123
Liberals: 104
Bloc: 50
NDP: 30

Total: 308

Here are the final results:

Conservatives: 124
Liberals: 103
Bloc: 51
NDP: 29

The Conservatives, for the first time in 13 years, form a government, but it's a weak minority.

I take it you're not happy w/the results..?

Well, I was hoping the end result would be Conservatives 125, Liberals 101, Bloc 51, and the NDP 30.

This is a messed up parliament, and the Liberal leader stepping down is not going to help. For the next 6 months roughly, the Liberal party will be pre-occupied with picking a new leader. This leadership race could get extremely ugly.

So, with the Liberals out, that leaves the Conservatives, Bloc, and NDP. The Conservatives and NDP should be able to get good legislation passed, but they'll need the help of the Bloc. I'm hoping since the Bloc was beaten badly last night (they lost 3 seats and 2% of their support), they'll wise up.

I am glad that the Liberals are gone, though. They were in power for far too long... roughly 13 years.

yeah, now maybe you canadians can give up that ridiculous notion that funding of personal medical expenses should be a governmental responsibility... (jk)
