Ok, I didn't need to read the entire article to know that that is pure bullshit. They're going to charge people for e-mails? What the fuck?

Ok thats just messed up. That goes against the basic principles of soceity of freedom of free speech and privacy issues would be the top arguments against this. I only read some of it and the idea just seems too ancient to me. Its like they wanna go back like 30 or 40 years ... slowing down development and increasing costs of living and everything.

From the way this article is slanted it would appear to be a mainly American (USA) set of companies intending to interfere with the American freedom of communication.

On that basis I wonder how America (in the broadest political, commercial and personal sense) will enjoy being isolated from the rest of the world.

No one else is likely to pay to communicate with the USA via e-means if they have to pay a premium for it. (For example - much as I love this Forum I'm sorry but I wouldn't pay an American phone company to retain my access to it)

Equally I can't see non-American governments being too happy with the idea of commercial interests interfering with their important activity of screwing up the world between them.

Long live the freedom of not just speech but communication in any form.

(and in any case we pay for our broadband access already - this sounds like pure greed to me.)

It's not going to happen. Just think of IPv6 being the "next" standard for the Internet. Did it happen? No. Was it all hyped up? Yes. Is it much different than this? For the most part, not really.
