The NFL voted almost unanimously to fine and penalize endzone celebrations...
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/7221738
Personally, I fucking LOVE endzone celebrations...I don't give a shit who does them...When Fred Lane (RIP) used to score for Carolina, he broke shit down and it was awesome to see...T.O. and the PomPoms...Chad Johnson...Steve Smith...Man, lots of great things...I am old enough to remember Billy White Shoes Johnson too...
My big issue is that people are making rules, and talking shit, and have probably never played an NFL game...Never scored a touchdown...Never know what the fuck its like to kick your ass kicked so bad on Sunday, that you can't move on Monday, and go through the mental process to do it again in 6 days...
If it were Jerry Rice...Lynn Swann...Steve Largent...And other NFL players making these decisions, then sure, you'd have to repsect it, they know what its like, they've done it...But when you got suits that are sitting back talking shit about how celebrations are selfish...Where do they get the audacity..? How do they know, that the linemen, the QB and everyone else that goes into making a touchdown doesn't want the WR to celebrate as a cap off..?
I'm curious to see the logic in a differing opinion...

I still remember when whole teams would congregate in the end zone and dance and just have a good ol' time. I guess
that the powers that be need to continue to maintain the "No Fun League."
In contrast, one of my favorite quotes comes from Barry Sanders, who said "My father told me that when you get in the endzone,
Act like you've been there before."
Barry entertained with his run into the endzone, not with a stunt after.

I'm with the 'old' guys. I hate the end zone celebrations of the last few years. If you are going to celebrate, dunk the ball over the goal post, spin it on the grass, or flip it out of your hand as you run through the end zone. I even like it if your team mates come down to get you in the end zone. It is cool to see the linemen pick up their running back, or a quarterback going down to congratulate his receiver. I love to watch Brett Favre run down the field with a finger or a fist in the air, and I am not even a huge Green Bay fan.
But please leave your Sharpies and cell phones in the locker room. Football is the ultimate team sport. For a guy to be celebrating like he is the hottest shit in town IS selfish. There are probably less than ten plays a year where a guy really gets 'himself' to the end zone, and is worth a celebration. Like Michael Vick eluding an entire defense on the final play of the game to win it, catching a pass that bounces off a defender's back and foot in a Monday night game to score, or returning a kick over 100 yards. I don't have a problem with guys celebrating after these types of game changing plays.
The problem is, these guys have been celebrating after 10 yard passes that 'they are paid to make'. If they knew when it was appropriate to celebrate and when not to celebrate, we wouldn't be talking about this. This follows the saying of, 'act like you've been there", you don't need to celebrate just becasue you made it to the end zone. Celebrate because you just set a major record, or becasue you just won the game, or you just made the most spectacular play we've ever seen.
If I can't remember the play that got you to the end zone, I shouldn't remember you celebrating!

I just started watching football last season, but I have to agree with Ja. I love the celebrations, and not just the ones done after a TD. I love how the guys always do a jig or throw up a fist or just let out a loud roar after an awesome play. I think that's what makes football so great. You don't see this type of shit in any other sport.
I mean, some guys will throw up a fist after a dunk in the NBA, and players always huddle together after a goal is scored in the NHL, but none of that compares to the shit that goes down in the NFL.
I honestly can't believe the vote was so one-side... if I was playing football, I'd say fuck it and take the 5-yard penalty. lol

Aight...heres my stand point.
I loved Barry Sanders....full of honor...and I really like the way he handed the ball off.....but that's his style.....his time period.
Today....I LOVE watching the celebrations... I don't understand the one guy's arguement.....who cares if they're paid to make the play? if they make the play...why can't they be happy about it?
Maybe some people dont know what it's like to play football.....I'm just a linemen....but the feeling I get when I jsut got done knocking my guy aroun...to look up and see my RB breaking to the outside for a TD.....its unmatched....you just dont get that anywhere else.......and I'm just the blocker......I can't help but yell and sprint and jump up and down screaming.....I can't even imagine what its like to be the one with the ball in your hands... So how can anyone look down on someone for getting that feeling and wanted to celebrate.....
I have to go, but I'll be happy to say more......I'll leavey ou with my main thought on it all...
You don't want to see him celebrate......then stop him from scoring the Touchdown

^ Good Point ^
I think that its a misconception to say that its selfish to celebrate...How do you know, the day before they played T.O.'s Sharpie game, T.O. didn't tell them, "Hey, you guys help me get into the endzone, I'm gonna do something you won't forget..!" If you're a lineman, and you know T.O., you just might go that extra distance to see just what is he's gonna do...
I really, really doubt, that after a touchdown, linemen and fullbacks and such are going, "I wish that muthafucker wouldn't show his ass when he scores..."
And, you do make a good point iMNO, but in the instances you name, the play itself is the celebration...Or so I think, once a guy throws a 80 yard Hail Mary, shit, that's all she wrote...
Barry Sanders would probably have done endzone celebrations if his ass hadn't been so tired from running for his life... /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
And then, they say that its affecting the High School kids, like...All of a sudden, they fucking don't have coaches, parents, and mentors anymore that can tell them they ain't got shit to celebrate till they sign a contract...
I fucking LOATHE that excuse...

I agree, man. That was a bullshit excuse. Why the fuck should the NFL care what's going on at high school games? I hate this bullshit "it doesn't matter if you win or lose" mentality that has taken over sports these days.

I love the TD celebrations. I think its a new part of the game that's awesome. NFL is all about talent right? Well it takes talent to make a sweet TD dance. Some of them are just plain stupid like Moss mooning the Pack fans, but others like Chad Johnson giving CPR is just awesome.
I like what Kramer said, "Fuck it and take the 5-yd penalty"

I don't, but I probably should...I remember Billy White Shoes Johnson that played for the Falcons, Ernest Givens that played for the Oilers...
