Hey guys i've just started playing around with wardriving and was wondering if anybody else on here is familiar with it.
From what i've come across it's mostly open-source code written for Linux. So guess most people doing this are familiar with and using Linux.
I'm downloading a program called Auditor right now. Just wondering if any of you guys have used it before or know anything about it.
Thanks...

for windows the best app I have found for locating the APs and gathering initial information about them is NetStumbler
Their website also has a links section which would probably also contain lots of good information.
To start out, you would probably be well served to know the default OEM passwords for the more popular wireless access point equipment manufacturers. Also, if you do not already have a laptop, look for one with "built in" wireless capabilities. The antenna for these is typically incorporated into the screen making it plenty sensitive enough to pick up signals. The netstumble site has info on crafting auxilliary antenna, but it is hard to look inconspicuous driving around with someone hanging out the car window with pringle cans trying to pick up a signal.
Don't spend too much time and energy on trying to crack wep/wpa security when first surveying an area; chances are there will be several unsecured APs just around the corner. Keep a lookout for places that advertise free wifi access (starbucks, hotels etc). Not only can you get online with a relatively anonymous/not-traceable-to-you IP address, but you would be AMAZED at the kinds of things you would be able to find out just sitting there, booted into a LINUX distro and using ettercap to sniff/capture the packets zipping around.
have fun, be careful, and always have a planned escape route/story/alibi etc.
