Notebooks
So I'm looking at getting a laptop and I want all of your opinion about which one would be the best. I basically need one that's very productive and great for music and photos. Gaming is nice but not that important. The only bad thing is that I only have $1,500 to spend.
Any suggestions?

Start with the chip, anything with an AMD chip in it is good, anything with an AMD 64 chip is better...

you should be able to get a killer laptop for 1500.
look for built in wifi and if you will be away from 110 outlets a lot, look for a chip with power saving features so your battery will last as long as you need it to.

About a year ago I got a Gateway laptop with an AMD Athelon 64 processor, 512 MB memory, 60 GB HD. I got it from Best Buy for about $1200.00. With the extended warrenty it came to around $1500.00. I love it. I've got the full Adobe PhotoShopCS loaded, DVD burning software, other memory intensive programs as well. I've been very pleased with it.

pentium M's have this feature as well as the AMD Mobile Chips. Look for the keywords Mobile, PowerSaving, and/or extended battery mode in the list of features. If you see this then it is what you are looking for. In your price range that is all you should really encounter.

So what I'm kind of looking at right now is the Dell XPS. It has a Pentium M chip and I can get it with 1 gb of memory and 80 gb of hard drive. I can upgrade that to 100 if I need to.
Does this sound good?

No Intel...Gig of RAM is good..80 GB hardrive is good, but the Gig of RAM is better, if you need more space than 40-60, you need an external...

Why do I need an external? What's wrong with putting the 80gb in the computer to begin with?

absolutely nothing, i think the point he was going for was if you are faced with having to decide between more ram or more hd capacity, go with the ram because you can always get an external HD.
