Was Afghanistan worth it?

This is pure fucking bullshit. A guy in Afghanistan was arrested because he converted to Christianity. He's in jail waiting for his trial. What the fuck? According to the ridiculous Afghan constitution this guy can be executed. If this guy is executed, I want all 2,300 Canadian soldiers brought home. Our guys didn't go over there so this new government could become the next Taliban. This is bullshit. Another perfect example of people taking religion too fucking far.

Death could await Christian convert

this is the conundrum of a religious govt.

but actually, they are declaring him mentally insane now, and saying he may be unfit to stand trial, and will just pass directly to the mental health system of AFGHANISTAN??? better they kill him now. that's what I would want.

Yeah, definitely better to have a bullet in the back of your skull than the slow torturous death in their "Mental Health System".

Man, I am just really having a hard time grasping that way of life...I have no formal education, but I watch the Discovery Channel and things like that...I see other people living lives VERY different than we live here...While I wouldn't want to live that kind of life, I certainly can understand it...Hell, they even probably feel the same way...

Other than my family, I just can't see what would get somebody so fucking worked up...A man converts to Christianity, and must be crazy, like the shit in their religious books makes that much more sense..? To me, that's like me wanting to kill another forum admin for bashing phpBB software...Insane man...

great analogy Ayhja,..

its about control and compatibility...

if only one man were to change, he'd be fine.

but for the regime this represents a repeatable circumstance.

now, if you let him convert, you know some others will, and eventually it will catch on. The whole notion of islam was that THEY needed their OWN messiah prophet. if it becomes accepted that Jesus will serve as THEIR messiah prophet, what need do they need for THEIR OWN? and their whole govt is based on the religion of islam.

what if I started working vu in cold fusion, which with some work is better than phpbb? and it works so well, the next thing i get people coming here for the dynamic content in fash and the presentations that completely revive VU. so, what if I then get more people viewing the VU section than the galleries, and it grows to a significant portion of the bandwidth to where the galleries and stacks can't be supported. Let's say, that the people who start coming here want to vote to get rid of the galleries so there is more room for the complete works of ptolemy, and othe great thinkers. then let's say they decide that the site would be better if we ignore sports,...

well, we know what,.. the VU site goes elsewhere, and we host it separately...

but that is because the landscape is virtual, and real estate is almost limitless,..

what if it were all based in a meeting in a space we (theoretically) owned that was all we really had besides our own savings.

this is why they fear diviersity. they aready feel underrepresented, and the last thing they need is more diversity to make them even smaller groups, which historically indicate less representation.

That still doesn't justify this guy being executed. It's not civilized; it's barbaric.

Hell no it doesn't justify it. It just shows he is the victim of institutional religious facism in Afghanistan, where his crime is punishable by death, which is a ridiculously extreme sentence in modern Western society, which AT ONE TIME did have the same view.

personally, they have a govt, and we can petition, but if they become a country this fucked up, and THEY DON'T BRING ABOUT THEIR OWN REVOLUTION, they will never be anything but another sycophant country of people resentful their way of life is not the ONLY way of life.

You know that they were just going to kill him if it wasn't for the media. Because the media got wind of this, they've gotta do some "tests" so they can maitain their trading partners or whatever.
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

My only solution that doesn't involve button pushing (hehheh) is to convince other countries that they shouldn't deal with them....I mean, sure, they got oil, but unless they can figure other uses like pouring the shit on they pancakes, they need it to be a big export...

Of course, we have our own oil, and Canada's too... Why is this not a step being taken, or am I being illogical..?
