zimeno Power..! :D

Post by WAY »

OK folks, I've decided to reveal my 'grandplan'..

I'm sure at least a few of you have heard me talk about zimeno somewhere on the board, but I doubt, maybe except AYHJA, you have any idea what it is. Bascially its a search engine. Thats right, a search engine.. /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />

Now, I know when searching, there ain't that many results, but, thats because my computer hasn't had enought time to download the web yet, lol
I've only got about 300,000 urls in the DB, but, I'd like to increase that to AT LEAST 1 million. I should be pumping out a few more crawl requests to sites soon, and, get it to index AF, AB, and some other sites that are missing and should be there..
I should work on the UI a bit more in the coming days, and, maybe give the logo a do-over (x3n, I might need to chat with ya about that, lol)

Now, all I ask of you guys (sorry SB and jenny, you count too lol) is to go check it out, search a bit (maybe even try to use it most of the time.. lol) and report back to me with bugs, missing urls of POPULAR sites, and if you know people who can do some translations soon.. :?

Also, if you, or know anyone who, has some computers that I could borrow to run the distributed search/indexing, that'd be VERY appreciated..! (I'll even pay for shipping if I have to)

Go check it out..!

(make it better than evil Google, lol)

PS: Kramer, I'll get back to you on that PM, but, this is basically what I need ya to do, just a page on here.. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Suggestions
  • Fix the search results page with zimeno etc
    • Features
Supports some Google-like search queries (eg site:www.limitthissearchonlytohere.com test searches for test ONLY on www.limit.........)
Supports full-text search (eg egg box returns sites with egg somewhere and box elsewhere, "egg box" returns only with egg box)

Is it able to integrate Google & Yahoo for a more comprehensive and unbiased search?

I am interested in this idea, thanks for the news.

Intergrating Google and Yahoo, well, that'd wouldn't really create an unbiased search, and anyway, I'll be limited by about 4 thousand requests a day on the developers license, PLUS, I want something different, not a damn metasearcher like a lot of different searches, but a completely different database..!

Oh okay, it's just that although I still heavily use Google, I've noticed they tend to be quite restricted in particular cases, and expansive in others.............

would you need the computer to be at your physical location or could the tasks be offloaded via the internet and the completed information sent back?

Yup, can be quite possibly done over the internet, no need to actually GIVE me the computer, in fact, if you could be bothered to leave you computer running, you could even EMULATE linux on windows as I currently do.. lol

This sounds really cool man. I'll be sure to check it out and let you know about anything i notice
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

Soren Kierkegaard
