Windows Explorer Error

#1

Post by Nostromo »

A couple months back I began receiving strange errors when I attempted to play certain videos or simply attempted to open a folder in which they were stored. A dialogue box would appear and notify that Windows Explorer needed to close due to an error. The dialogue box doesn't reveal (at to me) what the nature of the malfunction may be. Since then its gotten progressively worse wherein at least a third (and nearly all video joined by HJSplit) of all video seem to be similarly corrupted. Re-installation of Windows is a last resort. Hope someone out there can help.

No sweat...

First things first, what OS are you running on your box, and what application are you trying to use to play the videos..? Does it matter..? Is it file type specific..? Or is it just all vids in general..?

My instincts tell me a shotty codec, which can be removed easily, but it could be something a little more complex than that...Maybe even something that is conflicting on your startup that's taking a shit on you whenever you want to watch a vid...

As AYHJA said it's most likely just codec issues.

Try uninstalling whatever codec packs you have and try to reinstall them all.

Or try and install VLC player from Videolan. It's a great video player and plays just about every type of video file out there.

I've uninstalled and re-installed my video codecs... I'll de-activate my thumbnail view too this evening. Thanks for all the advice.
