Depends on where in the States you're talking about. Here in the rural South, it's usually OK except in the larger cities, but big city crime is spreading outward and onward.
Just found out that Jacksonville (just to my North) is the Murder capital of Florida. Beat out Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Woo hoo!!! We're #1!
