The War in Afghanistan

You know, as I read further into Inside CentCom, I slowly being to realize just how ignorant people are about this war. There are so many people who critized and are critisizing, yet they don't truly know what's going on. I mean, I'm in no way saying I know everything there is to know about Afghanistan, far from it. But at least I'm researching.

And I believe what Mike DeLong is saying is true not only because he was the deputy command for CentCom, but also because a lot of what he's saying, Bob Woodward said in his book, Bush at War.

Here's an example of people's ignorance. I was talking to a guy from Washington, D.C. a while back, and he was bitching because the U.S. only had roughly 11,000 troops in Afghanistan, about the same number of cops in New York. This same guy claims to be a "history buff." I couldn't help but laugh. If this guy really is a history buff, then he'd know what happened to the Russians when they tried to move an entire army into the country.

I've come to the conclusion that most Americans are general unhappy. I'm wondering how the country would react if OBL is captured tomorrow... It seems everyone has an opinion, but no one can be bothered to actually research it. They'd rather let Michael Moore do the research for them.

Generally, people just don't seem to get the fact that if they have EVER picked up a damn history book, they'd know that this is a world build on war...They don't understand the fact that people die everyday..Stop the fighting the say...I wonder if they would simply let someone fuck them over for everything that they have, and rather than fight for their stuff...The next celebrity especially, I want to see them up talking about war, and somebody just roll up and snatch off their $3000 Versace...And then, when they even attempt to retaliate, pull some of their speech out on them...Countries just don't go to war with other countries over bullshit...I don't allow people to talk to me without deploying a little common sense...

When we first started getting ready to invade that country every one said it would be like hell on earth.The russians got beat up bad over a long time and no one in history had ever conquired that country.That was before they knew we had missles that could go into caves,vision that let us see and destroy any tank any where and mushrum cload fire produessing bombs that would ignite 10 feet off the ground and kill every thing in an area the size of a football field.You say you have your troops spread out in trenches to minimize bombing impact?Sorry pal, there gone,We scared the crap out of the whole world thet year.

Americans have a short term memory and we've become so dependent on the TV that most believe what it says. Creating a new government takes many years especially a democratic one. We can't set time frames on when we can pull out from these countries(Iraq) because American troops have to remain to uphold a democratic nation when it's surrounded by hostile countries. I believe we had an oppurtunity in the 80's to help Afghanistan along the road to democracy but we chose to ignore it. Saddam should have been ousted the first go round but someone dropped the ball. Only time will tell what will happen from all the goof-ups Clinton made during his administration. If we desire stability in these areas then we have to force it. Too many years went by where a previous administration turned the cheek.

If we had taken out that oxygen thief back in '90, Iran would have become a major problem, we didn't have the knowledge of their WMD ambitions to help speed up our ambitions to knock their fuckin heads off like we do today.

I think another problem is people have become so desensitized. They expect a lot more than what they get. I remember when the U.S. first started Shock and Awe in Iraq. My sister thought it was weak. I looked at and was like, are you fucking kidding me? I thought the bombing was quite impressive...

Vorader wrote we had a chance to help the afghans out after the war and i agree 1000%.I wish more people would think about how these problems get so big in the first place.You had alot of afghan men with training only in weapons and a country destroyed by war with no industry to employ them.Very fertil ground for OBL and the taleban.I did some checking and russia left in the begining of 1989 and clinton didn't take office untill 1993.Kind of hard to blame the guy if he wasn't there and after 4 years go by youve probobly lost that window of opportunity.

I'm not blaming Clinton for Afghan. That was all Bush's baby right there. Regrettably he gave the CIA free reign in Afghan and a mass supply of weapons were put there to counteract the Russian weapons and communist regime left behind. Remember that the U.S. was trying to anticipate the fall of the U.S.S.R. so I doubt that Afghan was a priority in Bush's administration. Clinton was given fair warning on the threat of terrorism to the U.S. As much as people like to complain about the current administration, I can't imagine what kind of snafu we would be in if Clinton was president right now.
