Does the United Nations matter?

I think it does matter. The other day I was just reading a frends essay on regionalism and multilateralism. Her main focus was on developing countries and how they both differ from one another but inevidently reach the same goal. The UN has many functions, ie not just sit and delegate on matters but they also take action and do provide assistance to countries that need it.

Maybe it would help to know why you dont think it matters?

I really dont' see the point of the UN. I don't see them accomlish anything in the world. They should be in Uganda and the Sudan right now but they aren't. That's just one example, I know, but I really don't see them working for the world at all

The UN is a great idea, however, it doesn't mean shit to anyone, lol
The only thing that the UN is good for it helping developing nations and starting fights, lol

I think that like anything else, the measure of how something matters is how much it costs to maintain it...Since those are numbers that I don't have at the moment, I guess I'm going to have to put my opinion on hold...Given the failure of the UN to provide relief it seems where it matters the most, like in instances that are pointed out by Kramer's article, I'm leaning towards the red...

If an international body isn't capable of assessing global threats and needs, as in, Iran, cut the nuclear shit out or we'll all bomb your country to shit, what's the point..?

No systems perfect. The UN has many other functions, economic, political and a host of others. Of course there will be failures but also many successes. Although at times it might not be able to do what it is supposed to because of a lot of difference in opinion and stuff but yeah it is an important body

Theres always going to be a need for countries to get together and express there concerns.The U.N. provides some sort of buffer from war and famin.If you got rid of it you would just have to creat some thing else to replace it. Does any one know if there is some sort of group that evaluates what kind of a job its doing and where changes should be made.
