The British Grand Prix 2006

Post by goodog »

Hi Guys

This is my first topic so I hope I'm doing this right, please tell me if not.

I'm just home (last night actually) from a weekend at the British Grand Prix, my first time at a grands prix of any kind and, what an experience! Nothing in this world could prepare you for exactly how fast those cars go! TV really doesn't allow you to see that...and the sound, oh, man! At the start of the race on Sunday when all the cars were still bunched up the sound was enormous and incredible. I was at Copse corner, just opposite the very end of the pit lane and I could see up the start/finish straight so we could see the lights go off and it was just splendid.
I'm a Ferrari fan and I really admire Michael Schumacher so I was a bit disappointed that he didn't win but he did well enough to come in second and Alonso was very impressive.
The crowd was huge as well and surprisingly we were told that there wasn't as many there as usual mostly because of the World Cup but still huge nonetheless.
So, home again, an exhausting but totally brilliant experience and one I would heartily recommend.

I never could get car sports...I am sure its one of those things that you just have to see in person to understand the rush...Watching Pro baseball on TV sucks, but few things compare to eating a hot dog and sucking down a beer at Wrigley field.... /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />

At any rate, you're doing fine M8, enjoy the site and don't confine yourself to one section..!

Hi AYHJA

Thanks for that, I certainly won't confine myself to any one thing, this site is just great and I'd like to say what an amazing job you do keeping this going.

You're right about the big sports spectacle though, I do love motor racing but nothing on TV could ever prepare you for what it's like in the flesh. I'm a football fan as well (you would call it soccer I think, but to us it's football and that's the only football there'll ever be java script:emoticon('/:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />')) and watching even th eEnglish Premiership games on TV can be really boring. I go to watch my local club play every week (I'm from Northern Ireland and the standard is supposedly a lot poorer...) I think my local club are great to watch, I wouldn't miss it.

That said, I'm already planning a return to the British GP next year all being well!! It was that good.

I happened onto the Pamona Raceway in California one weekend and watched some drag racing and funny car shit. I was amazed at the speed, power, noise that you don't get from TV. It is much more fun to attend sporting events than just watch them on the TV screen. I would like to see a GP, cuz those cars haul ass!

All sports are better in person. I don't know one person who would disagree with that. I've never been to a racing sport though. There isn't anything like that where I am, but mainly it just doesn't seem exciting to me. If I did go see it in person that might change but I really see no thrill to it.

Welcome btw....

Back in the old days Siverstone used to have the added benefit of The Marlboro Girls: luscious honeys in tight red and white spandex, dishing out free fags to all and sundry. Sadly they no longer fit in with the times, and I think they've been canned. Shame.

In remembrance of times past...

I have to say, it was an absolutely beautiful day, the weather was excellent for England and there were thousands of pretty girls in evidence even if the Marlboro girls weren't there. But you're right, they don't fit with the times any more but hey, things move on.....
