QUOTE(Deepak)So its been like my dream to learn and be able to play an accoustic guitar but I never got around to learning it. So I have my holidays coming up and I decided that I would actually like to learn how to play a guitar. 1st thing I want to do is to actually buy a guitar.

So I was just wondering what to look for when buying one. Since I m not that musical, I was hoping for some tips and stuff as well.

Anyone can help?

First, work out how much money you can spend.

Then, try out ALL the acoustic guitars in every music shop you can get to (don't go flying across the country mind you), and see which one feels comfortable the most. Also, it should have a sound that you like.

Out of those that meet that criteria, pick the ones that look the best to you.

Remember, don't got for a great guitar if it's gonna break your wallet. Put the money limit FIRST.

I pretty much learnt on me own, and I don't know if my technique is that good, lol.

But I'll try and help you out when I can.

I pretty much just tried to emulate my favourite musicians, how they played, and watched guitarists. I started on an old Yamaha acoustic that belonged to my old landlady, the action was 10 foot off the neck and the neck itself massive, not good when trying to play speed metal! But I managed to sorta get round it.

Hey D how's the guitar comin'? Have you been playing/taking lessons?
I just got a cheap guitar. We were buying a piano for my wife, and I have wanted to play for a long time, so I made the dude throw in a free guitar. I found a pretty cool site that is giving me a start.
Let me know how you've been doing.

My little brother is a bass guru, seriously. and he can play a lil sumthin on the guitar as well.

My midnight blue ibanez electric acoustic does just fine for learning and cost 199 bucks with a case, strap a few monster picks and , and my cf martin backpack guitar is a perfect carry-on.

now, i just need to learn, and let's try to see what kind of [progress we make.].

i want to take some lessons, but I gotta get work smoothed out first. till then, we can at least see what kind of progress we can make.

The guitar learning is going very slowly. I hardly get enough time to sit down and practice properly. But I m starting to play chords now. At times it doesnt sound the best haha ... but its going good.

I have to spend way too much computer these days. We are creating a prototype from a use case. Its a group project and there is only me and this other girl who can actually do programming in vb.net

The worst thing is that someone else in the group forward engineered the data base and since it has some issues and the validation and everything is going all over the place for it.

Anyway sorry for going off topic but yeah i have been still learning how to play . Im learning on my own from a dvd and a book. So yeah its not the most fast paced approach i can take. But in a while i do want to go and take some lessons and get some help on it.

Thanks fap for that. I think it will be very interesting ... I ll download the entire thing when im at home tonite and see how it looks ...
