Immigrants, not Canadians, must adapt!

#1

Post by Bot »

My sister sent me this e-mail about a week ago. Just got around to reading it now. I completely agree with it.

IMMIGRANTS, NOT Canadians MUST ADAPT.

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Canadians. However...... the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Canada. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of Canada being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Canadians.......we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH/FRENCH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "We Stand On Guard For Thee" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women.......on Christian principles.............founded this nation..... and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home.........because God is part of our culture. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. But once you are done complaining.......whining...... and griping....... about our flag.......our pledge...... our national motto........or our way of life....I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other Great Canadian Freedom....... THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. It is Time for Canada to Speak up If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it! AMEN I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later, get back to the complainers, lets all try!

As I said above, I completely agree with this. This shit with Christmas really pisses me off, and I don't even believe in God. lol The name of the holiday is Christmas, and we all get the day off BECAUSE IT'S CHRISTMAS! So why the fuck is the time off now referred to as the Winter Holidays? I don't care if you're a Muslim or a Jew or whatever... if you're going to a Catholic school... guess what?! It's Merry Christmas and Christmas vacation, not Seasons Greetings and Winter Holidays.

Um, well, it's not so easy where I am from.

See, as a Scot-Jew American mongrel ( in the NINA (No Immigrant Need Apply) days, whose oldest American immigrant roots are with a noble past from a country that was ethnically cleansed from Europe (Moravia), as well as an ancestor who was a chowhakta chank'ut,.. everyone of my ancestors insisted we know our heritage, and that we had at least a bit of a grasp of those language and ideas of their culture.

And see, my people moved to Louisiana, where I was born. And as a native of Louisiana, we spoke French, Spanish Portugese, English, Three Carribean dialects, Creole, Manx Gaelic, Moravigian Czech, Italian, and Ashkenazi Yiddin before the United States of America ever drafted a constitution, or purchased us from Napoleon. In fact, in the Vieux Carre, we still have Spanish Portugese signs and French Signs for the roads and emergency services. I cherish that when I go back.

I also study languages. What I DON'T DO is form dominant subcultures that lack the ability to communicate with the larger populace or demand special attention to remain distinct for a political advantage.

Oh, if only I could get a menu in Theban era Macedonian Greek,.. or a letter from my Senator in Biblical Proto-Hebraic script, or If I could "Press 3 for Canaanite Eshmoon".. to hear my banking options.

Ok, seriously, raum... are you trying to be funny? :| Canaanite Eshmoon? Is that even used anymore? I seriously doubt it. lol

And I'm not asking people to give up their culture... but if they're gonna move to Canada, where we speak ENGLISH AND FRENCH, not Manx Gaelic, then they should learn English or French. If I moved to Russia I'd have to learn Russian. If I moved to Iran I'd have to learn Arabic.

Tough to them if they're offended when we refer to the Christmas holidays as the Christmas holidays. I'm not offended by them calling the Ramadan holiday Ramadan.

If Muslim schools wanna give their students a couple weeks off for Ramadan and call it the Ramadan holidays, shit, go for it! I won't stop them.

Shit, if I moved to Pakistan I wouldn't have the nerve to ask them to remove the crescent moon and star from their flag because it offends me...

I think you mean Farsi, right? /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I'm just saying us people who love languages are citizens as well.

holidays are a moot point for me.

Christian: "Merry Christmas"
Me: and a merry Christmas to you.

Muslim: "Good Ramadan"
Me: and God's comfort be granted during Ramadan to you. though, this holiday isn't a "good" time, ya know?

Pirate: "Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day"
Me: arh, matey, a full sail an a barrela rum to ye an yer crew! arh!!!

Taoist: ...
Me: ...

Canadian: "Glad tidings on the anniversary of the birth of our lord Jesus, eh?"
Me: "do you guys really have a snowman called Le BonBon? bwa-hahha!" *kidding*

It doesn't matter if I celebrate it or not. it's this thing called "RESPECT" and it predates political correctness.

Happy holidays. is one thing

------

I do think English should be the official language of the US, and those seeking citizenship should have to complete a SELF_FUNDED or volunteer based ESL course, and pass a basic sixth grade reading and comprehension test. i also think they should be able to fund their ESL lessons by agreeing to tutor adults in their native language for free.

but, that's cause i love languages.
