How Enron Worked the President ... (This is an interesting bit of
information that you don't hear much about.)
A. Enron's chairman did meet with the president and the vice president
in the Oval Office.
B.. Enron gave $420,000 to the president's party over three years.
C.. It donated $100,000 to the president's inauguration festivities.
D.. The Enron chairman stayed at the White House 11 times.
E.. The corporation had access to the administration at its highest
level and even enlisted the Commerce and State Departments to grease deals
for it.
F.. The taxpayer-supported Export-Import Bank subsidized Enron for
more than $600 million in just one transaction.
Scandalous!!

now, look up Enron and Clinton, or Enron and Gore. for example:
Former Enron officials said an important part of their strategy to win favor with the Gore campaign was a significant increase in the company's donations to Democrats. Enron documents outlined this approach; they show that in 1999 and 2000 the company gave $426,500 in soft-money donations to Republicans and $362,000 to Democrats. That amounts to 54 percent to Republicans and 46 percent to Democrats. In 1997 and 1998, Enron's donations had tilted much more to Republicans, 67 percent, with Democrats getting only 33 percent (source SFGate.com)
The reason is simple. They have been looking for the influence over the president to adhere to the Kyoto Protocol, to maximize their solar and wind assets because no one will do business with the in the coal and oil fields in this country, at least noone with a good head on their shoulders.
And to date, President Bush has refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol, so he still has not given Enron anything for their contributions.
Clinton, on the otherhand, made Enron a significant member of his Council on sustainable development. This gave the leverage needed to Enron become a member of the International Climate Change Partnership and the Pew Center's Business Environmental Leadership Council. And to make matters worse, Clinton gave them the subsidies in exchange for campaign contributions. Bush, however, gave them nothing.
It is on the basis of those positions that Enron gets to lobby the President directly. and besides, they have done so for some time.
August 1993. New President Bill Clinton takes his first vacation, a ski weekend to Vail, Colorado.
Who shows up to visit with Clinton? Ken Lay, Enron CEO.
1994 - 1995 Clinton Administration "makes a sale" for Enron. Enron and the administration work together to win Enron the contract for a power plant in India.
Clinton uses resources from the CIA to assess risk and analyze the strategy of Enron's British competitor. The administration is instrumental in procuring $400 million in financing from the Export-Import Bank of the United States and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
October 1995. Bill Clinton recruits Ken Lay to act as a point man for Clinton in drumming up support for Fast Track legislation. Lay just happens to be an old friend of Mack McClarty.
August 1997 Clinton hosts Ken Lay at White House to discuss upcoming meeting in Kyoto, Japan concerning greenhouse gas.
October 2000 Near end of Clinton's Presidency, but prior to the November election, a Clinton Assistant Treasury Secretary takes a position at Enron as vice president for federal government affairs. Observers call it a slap in the face to George Bush.
(remember, this is my job. in fact, we have a guy in big parts of washington right now, discussing the introduction of RTO power into LAGEN to allow the plants down there time to refurbish... in fact, I am sure all 960 market participants are lobbying Congress this week... and besides, in our company, Enron is like He who must not be named, and I'm Harry Potter.)

This reminds me of that "Crime Scene: Enron" cartoon that Playboy had in their August 2002 issue, lol
Ken Lay: "C'mon! You have to help me!"
GWB: "Bzzzt. This phone is not in service...."
nup, I'm not bashing any President, just got reminded of the cartoon
Who's LAGEN?
Oh, another thing, I just saw Steven Seagal's On Deadly Ground last week (what ya gonna do when you're rained in at a camp on a cattle property surronded by gilgai plains?)
