hello,

any of u guys can point me to a software that can record streaming video? ...preferrably something free and reliable.

and also, something 'no brianer', that an amateur like my can handle.

there are plugins for firefox that will aid in doing this.
Try The Amazing Media Browser or Download embedded first. If those don't work, there is a little more convoluted route involving another php server

if you have more details like what kind of video file it is etc we can provide more assistance

found a way to get into the site a few days ago and i hope they haven't blocked it yet by the time i get ur video capturing software suggestions n figure out how to run it.

i use firefox only occasionally. do u have something for IE?

the reason I use firefox exclusively is due to reasons like you are facing right now; wanting to download something but ie would not let me.

the learning curve is very short when making the transition from ie to Firefox, this sounds like a perfect opportunity to get started. I believe I even saw ayhja had posted his firefox profile somewhere, so you could get that also and then be set with all yer plugins and and stuff you would need.

I think we need to have an intervention. STOP USING IE!!! FIREFOX IS WAY BETTER, MORE RELIABLE, AND EASIER TO USE

Stop using IE...

Easiest way I have found is actually by using 2 programs...

First, you need HiDownload...Free, not free...Who's worrying..! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The second program is called wmv recorder or something like that...You can use it exclusively, but cracks have been elusive for me...But, with the Hi-Download, the one restrictio the program has, won't matter to you...

HiDownload is a download manager that deals with downling streaming vids...If you can right click on a video an get the properties, you should be able to put that uurl in HiDownload, and it will seek it out an DL it...Also, you may find the real URL in your cache if you use IE...Let the vid download, head to your cache, and see if you can see the file, which will probably be in .dat format...Should be easy pickin's...

BUT...

Some sites use link encrpytion, not quite phtml, but something close...If this is the case, you need a program with a URL sniffer, which wmv recorder has...You start playing the video on your screen, and then hit record on .wmv recorder...It will start catpuring any video playing in your window...It will also display the file URL, which you can then plug into HiDownload and download completely...

Its a bit of a different process, but it works...
