And let me guess... a Pentium 3 is different than a Pentium 4 too?

I mean what is different about them? Do they use the memory more effectively? Why would one go with PC5700 when they can just use PC3200?

YEAH! exactly chumski! p3 IS different than p4! well done! quick learner aye *shoves elbow up ruff's side*

but you're touching the limits of my knowledge. i suppose they are the same technology, but built more reliable, so that they can handle higher speeds.

And, from what I understand, higher number is better... but I guess my only option is to max out the RAM. The more RAM the better the system runs.

haha. yeah. but it is like approaching light speed: the more you get there, the more energy it costs and the more likely you are to fry*.

* did I use that word already? cuz that's what you gonna end up with experimenting too much. c?! just buy the very same frikken RAM you have in order to max out and you'll end up having your system switch between applications in no-time. quite good for rendering and photo-manipulation too.

Thats the plan now... PC3200 1 gig sticks run about $75 from what I see. I will get me maybe 1-2 more and then I will be good to go I'd guess.

you do with your money the hell you want, but... after a certain threshold and unless you do manipulate photos or render a lot, the investment is just not worth it anymore. the speed increase you see from 1 to 2gb will be hardly noticeable with XP. Vista might change that threshold from 2 to 3? I don't know (limits again. i am moving away from IT slowly but surely).

Right now I show the RAM at 2.37 gigs. I am thinking if I take out a 512 stick and put in a 1 gig stick, I would be fine.

I mostly play games and watch/burn movies on here. I play Civ IV alot. I just want to make sure it is working the best that it can. I want 100%... I don't settle for 99%.

2nd place is just the first loser.
