You can actually buy spray paint that is designed to give a rusted look in a matter of minutes..
However, I'm not sure what technique BlindG used..
and if I haven't already said so, EXCELLENT JOB..!! lol
A box of rust, decay and rotten.

Zaphodz and who.am.i(thaaaaanks :oops ) :
The technique followed was time taking but the stages were rather simple:
(here I have to let you know that I didn't do everything by myself. In fact a friend of me did the biggest part of things while showing me how I could go on... Cudos to *HIM* :@)
a) Apply base paint so that the acrylic can actually stay on.
/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> Apply a big layer of thinned paint and BEFORE it dries out, spread curry powder/chilli powder/oregano/basil (any of those you prefer for the texture) and let it dry.
c) Apply a sufficient layer of KINDA thinned paint to cover the spice from step B (if the paint is too thick, the texture won't show much)
d) Start dry brushing with different colours that will appeal like rust.
Now the colours here are tottaly up to you. For base and 1st layer, I used a brown colour from TAMIYA and then the RUST of their series. Dry brushing was made with various tones of pale yellow and black and many times combinations of the above with red... You just need to have a "testing ground" to determine what kind of colour to use for all this.
2 warning about the whole thing tho:
1) We used acrylic paints because my friend knew their behaviour. If someone knows any other style of paint for this thing use them /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Basically, plastic paint won't give much of effect so the MUCH MORE expensive acrylic seemed more suitable. Let me tell you, ONLY for the paints of this thing, I had to spend a little above $100
2) The first times you fire up the finished box and things will start getting heated (cpu, disk etc) it will smell like HELL from all the spices. Smell will go with time /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
If you have ANY other question(s) please don't hesitate /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I have a couple questions on this c00li0 mod:
1) what are the toggles we see in this thumbnail controlling?
2) Is the glowing green effect seen in this thumb accomplished with lights, paint, or both?

Wow, Ayhja, that is a sweet tower. I wish I could to that to mine, but I have no artistic talent what so ever. But, nice work.

Actually, I believe BlindG gets the credit for this one, Ayhja is still using a hand-me-down laptop with a pentium 233 in it

Emanon, I'm really sorry for not coming back here earlier
1) The switches are divided into 2 categories: fans(left) and lights(right). There are 6 fans on this box (5 of which you can see in the pictures):
1) Front for HDDs
2) Back for ventilation (left of the proc.)
3) on top of the DVD/R (this fan is inside the panel of the switches -in none of the pictures-)
4) Behind all the optical drives
5) Behind the HDDs, to cool down the regulators of the lights
6) The side panel fan
and 4 switches for the lights:
1) Bottom green cathode
2) upper green cathode
3) all (3) UV cathods -2 of which are in the same tubes with the green ones- (the paint on the fans and some other parts is UV so it adds a nice effect /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> )
4) a really small uv led which lights up in the cage of the 3.5 drives showing the little head & hand /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
2) That picture is one of my favourites too because I DON'T understand how that effect was created. Let me tell you, tho, that it's ONLY because of the camera shot. You can't see such an effect alone. Except maybe in the dark, with only the bottom green cathode fired /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Thank you for the compliment GrandWagoneer /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
