Anyone know of a decent computer DVD player application, that plays DVDs of any region, and for free?

And that do good screen-capturing?

I'm trying to search for some but they won't work /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> .

Thanks for the advice.

Do you know of a download link? I found a few free players but they either don't work or, the computer doesn't let me install them (damn admins).

If you have an admin above your head, I'm afraid you're S.O.L. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

There are 2 ways to play region free dvds:

1) Hardware layer (dvd firmware) combined with software layer (player regions)

2) software layer (dvd player/windows/software player)

In 1, you can flash the firmware of your drive and just use something like DVD genie to change the region of your software player (i.e. powerdvd).

In 2, you need something "low level" installed, like "any dvd" which (I *THINK*) still needs the "DVD Genie" (or something alike) program to be run before you run your software player.

Either way, the process is a little complex, especially if you don't have rights to do anything on the PCs.
Good... Bad... I'm the guy with the gun...

How do I flash the firmware?

Yep, I do have admins above me. I'm just a lowly university undergraduate & staff member ("Clerical Assistant"- I stuff envelopes and drop off books at the printery! haha!).

It's odd, as I'm capable of installing some applications. Such as WinRAR & SmartFTP.

There is a really simple way to make your system region free even if your software player and DVD drive are region locked.

Search for "DVD region free" or "anydvd" on any of the usual torrent sites eg mininova or torrentspy. Both of these let you play any region DVDs on your computer without the need to flash things.
